  1. RESULTS National Webinar June 3, 2023

  2. 2 Welcome! Jos Linn Associate Director, Grassroots Impact

  3. 3 Our Values & Resources At RESULTS we pledge to create space for all voices, including those of us who are currently experiencing poverty. We will address oppressive behavior in our interactions, families, communities, work, and world. Our strength is rooted in our diversity of experiences, not in our assumptions. With unearned privilege comes the responsibility to act so the burden to educate and change doesn t fall solely on those experiencing oppression. When we miss the mark on our values, we will acknowledge our mistake, seek forgiveness, learn, and work together as a community to pursue equity. Read our full anti-oppression values statement here at results.org/values. Check out the 2023 Spring Anti-Oppression Workshop Schedule for training opportunities. Find these resources and more at results.org/volunteers/anti-oppression: Resource Guides from our Diversity & Inclusion trainings, including: Interrupting Microaggressions Creating Space for Critical Conversations Information on how RESULTS responds to oppressive incidents

  4. 4 Debt Ceiling Update Fiscal Responsibility Act of 2023 (FRA) Legislation to avert debt default and limit future spending Imposes new work reporting requirements on older SNAP recipients (50-54 years old) Puts 750,000 older adults at risk of losing SNAP (CBPP) New exemptions for veterans, those experiencing homelessness, former foster youth New rules are nothing more than weaponized red tape

  5. 5 Debt Ceiling Update Fiscal Responsibility Act of 2023 (FRA) With inflation, this puts funding for our global poverty priorities at risk Specific funding must still go through appropriations process Changes to TANF that could affect welfare benefits to families Cuts to IRS funding to go after wealthy tax dodgers

  6. 6 Debt Ceiling Update Why did RESULTS push to defeat the FRA? The alternatives were much worse. House-passed budget bill imposed much deeper cuts to important programs Default on the debt would have been catastrophic Both would have led to a harmful recession, cuts to services, and higher unemployment Your advocacy helped prevent these worst-case scenarios

  7. 7 Media 150 campaign Generate 150 media pieces between April 1 and June 30 You ve already gotten 135 published pieces toward the goal, including 37 pieces on the debt ceiling in less than a month! Keep pushing Congress to prioritize poverty this year!

  10. 10 Targeted action on the CTC Help get co-sponsors for the American Families Act (AFA) The AFA would restore the CTC to its 2021 levels, covering all families with low-incomes, regardless of earnings. Goal is 175 original co-sponsors (129 so far) to show strong support for expanding the CTC this year. See if your Democratic House member has signed on as an original cosponsor. Check this blog for resources to ask your Democratic member to sign on.

  11. 11 Targeted action on the CTC Talking to skeptical Members of Congress Most common argument: the 2021 CTC was partisan and disincentivizes work Counter this by: Educating the how the current CTC works, especially who is left out How they can help improve the credit in a bipartisan way See other arguments at: https://results.org/blog/how-to-respond-to- common-arguments-against-expanding-the-child-tax-credit-ctc Additional resources to help: https://results.org/issues/inequality-tax-policy
