USNA Assessment Timeline Late 1990 s Assessment Task Force (ATF) formed (evolved into FSAC) 2002 Director of Assessment position created 2006 USNA successfully reaccredited by MSCHE Academy Effectiveness Board (AEB) created to facilitate institutional- level assessment 2012 Assistant Dean of Planning and Assessment position created (revised to Associate level in 2015) 2013 Core Learning Outcomes collaboratively written 2016 USNA successfully reaccredited by MSCHE

Charge from ACDEANINST 5400.1A FSAC facilitates the United States Naval Academy academic assessment process which was, "establish[ed as] a comprehensive program of academic assessment...intended to provide a systematic, cost- effective, and reasonably accurate basis for on-going examination and improvement of the academy's curriculum. FSAC . shall create and monitor an overall framework and timetable for academic assessment review and coordinate departmental assessment activities and facilitate the communication and sharing of good practices across the academy

FSAC Annual Timeline June August Assessment reports due from departments September November FSAC members read and review department reports (majors and core) December FSAC meets individually with all departments January Revise and propagate annual assessment memo January May Education and outreach FSAC workshops Individual consultations with departments May 2017: CTL conference sessions

FSAC Outcomes Through the work of FSAC, USNA faculty and staff will maintain a culture of assessment of student learning that supports the improvement of midshipman educational experiences within the core and majors at the course, departmental, divisional, and institutional levels employ meaningful, manageable, and sustainable practices in assessment of student learning throughout the USNA community articulate the elements of the assessment cycle and describe assessment of student learning within their respective programs/department and the core curriculum create student learning outcomes at the course, program, and core levels

FSAC Member Outcomes FSAC members will, as a result of active participation on the committee, be able to apply knowledge of and competence in assessment of student learning in higher education to assessment at the Naval Academy communicate assessment practices that support student learning and improvement of midshipman educational experiences articulate the challenges and strengths different departments experience in conducting assessment of student learning and share good practices in assessment develop collegial and professional relationships with members of the USNA community that support the improvement of student learning and educational experiences
