Recruiting Your have been recruiting faculty for a new division and your Vice chair just finished a follow up call with a faculty candidate who turned down your offer. Your university-affiliated institution has recently halted all gender affirming care. The candidate disclosed to your vice chair that they have a transgendered child. What are your next steps, if any?
Developing Faculty Your newest division chief has asked to attend a conference like the AAMC Early Career Faculty Leadership Development conference. You have budgeted for opportunities like this however your institution has recently phased out DEI initiatives. Your dean s office instructs you to consider other opportunities. How are you navigating any new restrictions on supporting/advancing your faculty?
Oversight You have received 5 FOIA (or state legislative equivalent) requests for information or emails this year. Your faculty participation in any committees, initiatives or mentoring of under-represented patients or learners is being audited. Your previous evaluations as chair included a report on faculty diversity compared to patient demographics and faculty rank/advancement compared with AAMC tables. These comparisons are being removed and your are not yet sure what will replace them as part of your eval. How are you doing? What do you need?
