Why NAMI? Why NAMI? Started in 2014 as an intern Discovered Mission largest grassroots mental health organization dedicated to building better lives for the millions of Americans affected by mental illness. Trained as a Homefront facilitator and later a State Trainer Helped start and facilitate several psychotherapy groups Introduced to NAMI WA Executive Director
Why I stay at NAMI I believe in open access to support, education, advocacy I believe in supporting families and the many, many others affected by mental health disorders I believe that we can end the stigma And I believe that NAMI has a proven track record of helping those disenfranchised by mental illness.
Road to NAMI Road to NAMI I am a person in recovery Younger wilder days without treatment No treatment options available in rural South Eastern Washington Young Adult days little treatment into GREAT treatment Middle Age days introduced to NAMI where I realized that NAMI s standard Predictable Stages of Emotional reaction is accurate
Since 2014 Since 2014 Watching people across the country recover, advocate and support one another is an amazing inspiration Strengthening my recovery Strengthening my family, friends, neighbors, community Providing resources and support Opportunities to meet people around the country NAMI is a primary source of passion in my life Making a difference!

NAMI Homefront's mission is to provide education for managing conditions, provide support and to help break down the stigma of seeking help for the families and loved ones of service personnel. Developed by Teri S. Brister, Ph.D. and Suzanne Robinson, MSW
Six-session educational program (In-person or interactive On-line available) Based on NAMI s SAMHSA approved - evidenced based Family to Family education program. Homefront was created to address the unique needs the families, caregivers and friends of military service members and vets with mental health conditions. Taught by teams of two trained family members of service members/veterans Addresses issues such as post deployment and post discharge transitions
Invisible scars of combat and deployment can contribute to Veteran homelessness or place Veterans at higher risk of homelessness VA reports up to 80% of homeless Veterans suffer from untreated or undertreated mental heath and/or substance use disorders * NAMI is committed to providing support to service member/veteran families in this struggle * https://www.va.gov/homeless/nchav/research/population-based-research/mental-illness.asp

NAMI Provider Education is a 5-week course that presents a penetrating, subjective view of families and individuals living with mental illness to line staff at public agencies who work directly with people living with severe and persistent mental illnesses.
Two presentation options: Two presentation options: 15 hour program of in-service training taught by a team consisting of two adults in recovery from mental illness, two family members and a mental health professional 4 hour seminar program in-service training taught by a team consisting of an adult in recovery from mental illness, a family members and a mental health professional
