GR 12 YEAR -TIMELINE GR 12 Class visits October Applications for College and University open November College Monday s a virtual event every Monday in October and November University Visits Virtual sessions with some local Universities - November Application Deadlines: January 13th for University and Feb 1st for College Community Service Hours are due March 1st, 2023 February to April College and University offers to students May/June Acceptance of offers June Graduation June 27th

  4. GRADE 12 EXIT PLANS All Gr. 12 will meet with their Guidance Counsellor to go over their post- graduation plan. These Exit Plan meetings will take place starting early November. Students are encouraged to book their Exit Plan meeting with their counsellor through the D2L page or the QR code located outside of Student Services. For a more productive meeting, students are encouraged to do some research prior to their meeting. Please see the announcement posted in D2L on Sept 30th regarding links to start your research.

  5. ONTARIO SECONDARY SCHOOL LITERACY TEST Students Graduating in June 2022 will NOT need to complete the OSSLT. It will be waived. Students NOT graduating in June 2022 and will be returning, will need to complete the OSSLT requirement to graduate the following year.

  6. COMMUNITY SERVICE HOURS Due at the LATEST on March 1st 2022 IMPORTANT: Graduates for 2022 will require 20 hours to complete Graduation requirements. If you are not graduating in June 2022 you will need to complete the 40 hour requirement. Must be Not for Profit If in doubt, students have been instructed to check with Student Services PRIOR to undertaking the volunteer work to ensure that hours will be acceptable. Ideally the sooner the better as grade 12 students get busier as the year goes on.

  7. GENERAL UNIVERSITY INFORMATION www.ontariouniversitiesinfo.ca for Ontario University information including prerequisites and averages. Start your research now. Average is the top 6 U or M level Grade 12 courses including prerequisites. Universities will look at grade 11 marks for scholarships, early admission, but only if it helps the applicant. Upgraded courses count in most cases although on occasion there are penalties imposed for a retaken course. You should try to visit your top University choices. Studies show that it helps with choices and success.

  8. APPLICATION PROCESS FOR UNIVERSITY On-line application through the OUAC (Ontario Application Center) $150.00 per application and that allows you 3 choices...of both University and program. You have unlimited additional choices but each one costs $50.00. Additional fees for supplementary applications and International Students will be added at the time of application Recommended that students pick at least 1 sure bet . Apply early. Before Christmas holidays.....the actual deadline is January 13th, but it is beneficial to apply before that. You may make changes to both the university and or program up until Feb. 4th with no penalties. The Universities you are interested in will e-mail information you may need as soon as they receive you application. Personal statements some are required, some are optional. They can only help. Check all emails that you receive from the Universities.

  9. UNIVERSITY TIMELINES PIN s are available in Student Service in early November. Listen for the announcement. "How to Apply" presentation available on D2L in November. Deadline for equal consideration is January 13th Universities will receive your grade 12, Quad 1 & 2 marks by February and then the marks from Q3 semester by the end of April. May 27this the latest day an offer of submission will be made by a University. June 1ndthe earliest date the Universities should require a response to an offer of admission.

  10. UNIVERSITY APPLICATION PRESENTATION We will be having a virtual presentation about the University Application process on Wednesday, November 3rd at 2:15 p.m. Please go to D2L for the Teams link on that day. Universities will be visiting Loyola virtually in November. Dates and join codes will be posted on our D2L page.

  11. GENERAL COLLEGE INFORMATION www.ontariocolleges.ca for all college programs and start dates Admission averages will vary from programs to schools...average of the six highest senior level credits (including required courses) for certificate/general/advanced diploma programs....six grade twelve U or M courses for Degree/Joint programs. Admission testing/portfolio/auditions may also be included or required.

  12. APPLICATION PROCESS FOR COLLEGE On-line application....open in mid-October. $ 95.00... Students get 5 program choices with no more than 3 at any one school.... (Colleges give equal consideration to all program choices). Important Dates: February 1, 2022 Equal Consideration May 1, 2022 Confirm Acceptances June 2022 Earliest Date For Payment (Deposit)

  14. COLLEGE APPLICATION PRESENTATION We will be having a virtual presentation about the College Application process on Thursday, November 4th at 2:15 p.m. Please go to D2L for the Teams link on that day. Virtual College Mondays A virtual event every Monday in October and November.

  15. APPRENTICESHIP PROGRAMS Students that are interested in pursuing a career in the skilled trades will want to visit https://www.ontario.ca/page/skilled-trades Students begin their apprenticeship while they are working with the employer. Students learn in a hands-on setting In-class learning modules throughout your apprenticeship. Students can also apply to pre-apprenticeship programs through ontariocolleges.ca

THOMAS MERTON SECONDARY SCHOOL Thomas Merton Catholic Secondary School is designed for students that are over the age of 18 & want to earn high school credits Students can: Finish their high school diploma Upgrade marks for post-secondary programs Take prerequisite courses for post-secondary programs Students can attend Merton even after they finish their diploma!
