  2. Introduction A shared common purpose The safe and sustainable reopening of schools The interests of children and young adults and their families The safety and wellbeing of the school staff and whole school community

Working together We recognise that all schools are learning and adjusting We want to work with you to: recognise and affirm best practice provide assurance that the COVID 19 Response Plan is being implemented by school authorities identify instances where guidance may not be adequately implemented provide advice about how this can be addressed identify where guidance is proving difficult to implement and feed this back to Department to inform any changes needed in guidance

The SSRS trial Since our meeting in September we: Conducted SSRS visits in 21 primary, 16 post-primary schools and 1 centre for education Requested feedback from school leaders on the process Received feedback from all inspectors involved in the visits Consulted with School Governance on our procedures and processes Circulated information to our partners on the visits

  5. What did we find? Visits were positively received by schools School leaders welcomed the opportunity to engage in discussions with inspectors School leaders engaged positively Principals and school communities have made great efforts to reopen schools Examples of very good and excellent practice Collaborative efforts of school communities Pupils/students settled back to school

  6. What did we find? Almost all aspects were fully implemented in the schools visited Requirement to have policy signed was not implemented in two instances Should we look again at this indicator? As well as looking at the ten main aspects the inspectors engaged in professional dialogue with principals Opportunity appreciated by inspectors and school principals Flexibility to combine the advisory role with the visit
