HOW TO REPORT VIOLATIONS All NCAA institutions have a duty to report all violations of NCAA rules So, if you know of a violation, you are duty- bound to report it If you think something could be a violation, please let the compliance staff know of the situation Ways to report known or possible violations Email Telephone In-person Sources of information will be kept confidential if desired in order to promote disclosure

SPORTS WAGERING Includes placing, accepting, or soliciting a wager of any type on any intercollegiate, amateur, or professional team or contest. Wager: any agreement in which an individual or entity agrees to give up an item of value (money, apparel, meals) in exchange for the possibility of winning another item of value Examples: Using a bookmaker Internet sports wagering Pools or fantasy leagues in which an entry fee is required AND there is an opportunity to win a prize So, March Madness pools & fantasy leagues are permissible as long as there is no entry fee or no opportunity to win a prize

PUBLICITY OF RECRUITS NCAA rules prohibit commenting on a prospective student-athlete prior to signing a National Letter of Intent except to confirm recruitment Cannot comment on ability or the contribution he or she might make to the team Cannot comment on likelihood of signing with the institution Coaches could not confirm recruitment & then comment on the recruit s athletic ability For sports information staff: please confirm with us that a recruit has signed a National Letter of Intent prior to publishing information on the website

AWARDS FOR STUDENT-ATHLETES Awards for student-athletes are generally permissible However, there are limitations on value of awards that can be given (see attached charts) Booster club may conduct an athletics banquet once per year All expenses must be paid through the athletic department Location must be within 100 miles of campus No tangible award can be provided to team members See attachments for more information

NATIONAL LETTER OF INTENT (NLI) Process for Spring Signing Period Institution issues a NLI and offer of athletics aid to the prospective student-athlete. Prospective student-athlete signs two copies; returns one to institution and keeps one. NLI must be signed within 14 days of issue date. If prospective student-athlete is under 21, a parent/legal guardian must also sign the NLI. Institution verifies required information and sends to conference office. Must be filed with conference within 21 days of final signature. Ask Before You Act

PHYSICAL POLICIES NCAA rules require physical in first year prior to any participation with team & an updated medical history be submitted in subsequent years prior to participation with team Institutional Policy: any student-athlete who has been away from the institution for more than a year must have a physical So, treat returned missionaries like an incoming freshman We will work with athletic training staff to determine a more accommodating schedule can be created to fit needs of all teams

NEW NCAA LEGISLATION Amateurism: An individual may enter into an agreement to compete on a professional team and compete on a professional team, provided the agreement does not guarantee or promise payment (at any time) in excess of actual and necessary expenses to participate on the team Effective August 1, 2010 Applicable to student-athletes who initially enroll full-time on or after August 1, 2010 So, affects PSAs you are currently recruiting

NEW NCAA LEGISLATION Delayed Full-Time Enrollment: A student-athlete who does not initially enroll full-time in a collegiate institution within one year (six months for tennis) or the next opportunity to enroll following the high school graduation date of the prospective student-athlete's class and participates in organized events after the specified time period shall be charged with a season of intercollegiate competition for each year of participation and shall fulfill an academic year in residence (one year for each year of competition in tennis) on matriculation at the certifying institution before being eligible to represent the institution in intercollegiate competition. Effective August 1, 2010 Takes rule that used to apply to volleyball & tennis and applies it to all sports Issue: foreign PSAs & those that go to prep school If play a year at prep school after graduating, then charged a year of competition and have to sit out a year as year in residence

NEW NCAA LEGISLATION Women s Basketball Recruiting For summer evaluation period, you are now unable to evaluate PSAs at non-institutional non-organized events (e.g., pick-up games, open gyms). Effective immediately Recruiting: Audio/Video Materials for Recruiting May produce video or audio material to show to, play for or provide to a prospective student-athlete, provided such material includes only general information related to an institution or its athletics programs and is not created for recruiting purposes; Effective immediately

NEW NCAA LEGISLATION Recruiting: Camps & Clinics (other than football) Institution's camp or clinic shall be conducted on the institution's campus or within a 100-mile radius of the institution's campus. Effective immediately Recruiting: Camps & Clinics (FCS football) An institution's camp or clinic may be conducted only during the months of June, July and August or any calendar week (Sunday through Saturday) that includes days of those months (e.g., May 28-June 3); An institution's coach or non-coaching staff member with responsibilities specific to football may be employed in any capacity in a non-institutional, privately owned camp or clinic at any location and only during the months of June, July and August or any calendar week (Sunday through Saturday) that includes days of those months (e.g., May 28-June 3). NEW NCAA LEGISLATION Football: Summer Conditioning New rule permits an institution to designate nine consecutive weeks between the conclusion of the academic year and the institution's reporting date for preseason practice as its summer conditioning period. Effective immediately Men s Basketball: JuCo transfers w/ PE credit not more than two credit hours of physical education activity courses may be used to fulfill the two-year college transfer requirements; further, to specify that a student- athlete enrolling in a physical education degree program or a degree program in education that requires physical education activity courses may use up to the minimum number of credits of physical education activity courses that are required for the specific degree program to fulfill the two-year college transfer requirements.

NEW NCAA LEGISLATION Recruiting: Men s Basketball During a two-year period before a prospective student-athlete's anticipated enrollment and a two- year period after the prospective student-athlete's actual enrollment, an institution shall not employ (or enter into a contract for future employment with) an individual associated with the prospective student- athlete in any athletics department noncoaching staff position.
