CSU CI CONSORTIAL PRICE: 2013-2019 Over 6 years (2 multiyear contracts): 25.00% increase. Average price increase: 4.17% per year. 2019 sees the end of the latest multiyear contract. 2019 cost for CI: $81,745.00 for ScienceDirect.

PUBLISHING MODEL FOR ELSEVIER $$$$$ $$$$$ Library uses state funding to pay for subscriptions for reading access. Publishers, in this case Elsevier, collect funds from both parties. CSU authors pay for open access via article processing charges (APC) with grant monies.
PUBLISHING LANDSCAPE CHANGES Libraries currently pay for reading rights to journal content via subscriptions; large blocks of titles subscriptions are often called Big Deals and are similar to the metaphor of cable TV bundling. Movement to shift the dollars from paying to read journal articles to publishing open access (called offsetting). Other large, research-intensive institutions have explored, and successfully negotiated, read and publish deals with some major publishers.
OPEN ACCESS (OA) What is open access? The type of access to all forms of published research outputs. Types of OA journals: Gold: full OA; Green: self-archiving by author(s)/ institution(s); Hybrid: some OA, some not; Bronze: delayed OA; Diamond/Platinum: OA with no APCs.
IMPACT OF NEGOTIATIONS WITH ELSEVIER Update CI community on the CSU-Elsevier contract negotiations for ScienceDirect. Solicit input from CI community about impacts on research, teaching & learning. Meet with program faculty in Spring 2020 to solicit support for pushing back on upward spiraling cost of ScienceDirect.
