NEHEMIAH 2 MAN OF ACTION AND MAN OF PRAYER
Ezra 1:1-2 (ESV) n the first year of Cyrus king of Persia, that the word of the Lord by the mouth of Jeremiah might be fulfilled, the Lord stirred up the spirit of Cyrus king of Persia, so that he made a proclamation throughout all his kingdom and also put it in writing: 2 Thus says Cyrus king of Persia: The Lord, the God of heaven, has given me all the kingdoms of the earth, and he has charged me to build him a house at Jerusalem, which is in Judah.

NEHEMIAH 1:4 4 As soon as I heard these words I sat down and wept and mourned for days, and I continued fasting and praying before the God of heaven.
Hebrews 11:8-10 (ESV) 8 By faith Abraham obeyed when he was called to go out to a place that he was to receive as an inheritance. And he went out, not knowing where he was going. 9 By faith he went to live in the land of promise, as in a foreign land, living in tents with Isaac and Jacob, heirs with him of the same promise. 10 For he was looking forward to the city that has foundations, whose designer and builder is God.
THE VISION OF ISRAEL 1. Future Messianic King (Isaiah 11. Hos 3) 2. God s presence in new temple (Ez 40-48. Zech 2) 3. God s kingdom over the nations (Isaiah 2 . Zech 8)
SPECIFIC PRAYER Nehemiah 1:11 (ESV) O Lord, let your ear be attentive to the prayer of your servant, and to the prayer of your servants who delight to fear your name, and give success to your servant today, and grant him mercy in the sight of this man. Now I was cupbearer to the king.
THE RESULTS OF PRAYER 1. Prayer creates a space in which God can act 2. Prayer produces opportunities 3. Prayer overcomes fear 4. Prayer is where planning starts 5. Prayer ultimately produces action
1. PRAYER CREATES A SPACE IN WHICH GOD CAN ACT

THE LAW OF ACCUMULATION Revelation 5:8 (ESV) And when he had taken the scroll, the four living creatures and the twenty-four elders fell down before the Lamb, each holding a harp, and golden bowls full of incense, which are the prayers of the saints.
MALDONADO, GUILLERMO Have you prayed for certain things that you still haven t seen manifested? If you have offered prayers that were to be fulfilled in the future, they have accumulated in one of these heavenly bowls; as in a bank account, they are earning interest and growing. And they are about to be poured out! even though they may not manifest until the prayer bowl is full. It may be that there is not enough spiritual matter accumulated to give shape to your miracle in the natural realm. Therefore, continue depositing prayers, making offerings, and fasting, until the time is fulfilled and your bowl is ready to be poured out.
MALDONADO, GUILLERMO If you want to bring heaven to earth, that s not how it will happen. When your faith and prayers have sufficiently accumulated, the manifestation will take place easily.
For instance, the resurrection of the dead is a powerful miracle that characterizes King Jesus Ministry. However, it was not something that happened overnight. In my daily prayers, the Holy Spirit showed me that this was the next level of power I would receive in ministry. From that moment, I started to accumulate prayers in that direction and to look for the power of the resurrection. When I had accumulated enough prayers, the bowl overflowed and resurrections began to take place. It was glorious! But it took a lot of prayer time to reach that new level.
Abrahams faith wasnt rooted in the promise of descendants His faith was rooted in the Promisor. Its not the outcome it s the process

Nehemiah 2:1-2 (ESV) In the month of Nisan, in the twentieth year of King Artaxerxes, when wine was before him, I took up the wine and gave it to the king. Now I had not been sad in his presence. 2 And the king said to me, Why is your face sad, seeing you are not sick? This is nothing but sadness of the heart. Then I was very much afraid.
HENRY NOUWEN Without prayer I become irritable, tired, heavy of heart, and I lose the Spirit who directs my attention to the needs of others instead of my own. Without prayer, my attention moves to my own preoccupation. I become cranky and spiteful and often I experience resentment and a desire for revenge. But he noticed in retrospect that the days and weeks were different, positively different, when he prayed:. without this one hour a day for God, my life loses its coherency and I start experiencing my days as a series of random incidents and accidents. that his hour a day in a chapel was full of distractions, restlessness, sleepiness, confusion and boredom.
WHEN IM TRUSTING GOD FOR THE BEST, WHILE AT THE SAME TIME PREPARING FOR THE WORST. Psalms 13:1-2 (ESV) How long, O Lord? Will you forget me forever? Psalms 13:5-6 (ESV) But I have trusted in your steadfast love; How long will you hide your face from me? Psalms 13:3-4 (ESV) Consider and answer me, O Lord my God;light up my eyes, lest I sleep the sleep of death,4 lest my enemy say, I have prevailed over him, lest my foes rejoice because I am shaken. my heart shall rejoice in your salvation. 2 How long must I take counsel in my soul 6 I will sing to the Lord, and have sorrow in my heart all the day? because he has dealt bountifully with me. How long shall my enemy be exalted over me?
SCREW TAPE LETTERS Whenever they are attending to the Enemy Himself we are defeated, but there are ways of preventing them from doing so. The simplest is to turn their gaze away from Him towards themselves. Keep them watching their own minds and trying to produce feelings there by the action of their own wills. When they meant to ask Him for charity, let them, instead, start trying to manufacture charitable feelings for themselves and not notice that this is what they are doing. When they meant to pray for courage, let them really be trying to feel brave. When they say they are praying for forgiveness, let them be trying to feel forgiven. Teach them to estimate the value of each prayer by their success in producing the desired feeling; and never let them suspect how much success or failure of that kind depends on whether they are well or ill, fresh or tired, at the moment.
Nehemiah 2:2 (ESV) And the king said to me, Why is your face sad, seeing you are not sick? This is nothing but sadness of the heart. Then I was very much afraid.

SEIZES OPPORTUNITY Nehemiah 2:2-3 (ESV) And the king said to me, Why is your face sad, seeing you are not sick? This is nothing but sadness of the heart. Then I was very much afraid. 3 I said to the king, Let the king live forever! Why should not my face be sad, when the city, the place of my fathers' graves, lies in ruins, and its gates have been destroyed by fire?
Nehemiah 2:2 (ESV) And the king said to me, Why is your face sad, seeing you are not sick? This is nothing but sadness of the heart. Then I was very much afraid.
HENRY NOUWEN So I am praying while not knowing how to pray. I am resting while feeling restless, at peace while tempted, safe while still anxious, surrounded by a cloud of light while still in darkness, in love while still doubting.
LETTER FROM KING ATAXERXES Ezra 4:19-22 (ESV) And I made a decree, and search has been made, and it has been found that this city from of old has risen against kings, and that rebellion and sedition have been made in it. 20 And mighty kings have been over Jerusalem, who ruled over the whole province Beyond the River, to whom tribute, custom, and toll were paid. 21 Therefore make a decree that these men be made to cease, and that this city be not rebuilt, until a decree is made by me. 22 And take care not to be slack in this matter. Why should damage grow to the hurt of the king?
PSYCHOLOGICAL WAYS OF DEALING WITH FEAR AVOIDANCE HABITUATION DEEP BREATHING
Nehemiah 2:2-5 (ESV) 2 And the king said to me, Why is your face sad, seeing you are not sick? This is nothing but sadness of the heart. Then I was very much afraid. 3 I said to the king, Let the king live forever! Why should not my face be sad, when the city, the place of my fathers' graves, lies in ruins, and its gates have been destroyed by fire? 4 Then the king said to me, What are you requesting? So I prayed to the God of heaven. 5 And I said to the king, If it pleases the king, and if your servant has found favor in your sight, that you send me to Judah, to the city of my fathers' graves, that I may rebuild it.
Nehemiah 1:5 (ESV) And I said, O Lord God of heaven, the great and awesome God who keeps covenant and steadfast love with those who love him and keep his commandments,
CHLOE KIM FATHER MY AMERICAN DREAM "I was very stressed because everyone was saying Chloe was going to win gold but no one knows the result -- that I cannot control,"
MY FATHER IS ALSO THE KING Nehemiah 1:5 (ESV) And I said, O Lord God of heaven, the great and awesome God who keeps covenant and steadfast love with those who love him and keep his commandments,
HENRY NOUWEN Ultimately he placed his trust in a God who holds me, who loved me long before I came into life [and] will love me long after I have died.
FEAR DRIVES YOU TO HIS POWER Acts 4:24-26 (ESV) And when they heard it, they lifted their voices together to God and said, Sovereign Lord, who made the heaven and the earth and the sea and everything in them, 25 who through the mouth of our father David, your servant, said by the Holy Spirit, Why did the Gentiles rage, and the peoples plot in vain? 26 The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers were gathered together, against the Lord and against his Anointed
Acts 4:27-31 (ESV) for truly in this city there were gathered together against your holy servant Jesus, whom you anointed, both Herod and Pontius Pilate, along with the Gentiles and the peoples of Israel, 28 to do whatever your hand and your plan had predestined to take place. 29 And now, Lord, look upon their threats and grant to your servants to continue to speak your word with all boldness, 30 while you stretch out your hand to heal, and signs and wonders are performed through the name of your holy servant Jesus. 31 And when they had prayed, the place in which they were gathered together was shaken, and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and continued to speak the word of God with boldness.
FEAR DRIVES YOU TO HIS BEAUTY Psalms 27:1-4 (ESV) The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life; of whom shall I be afraid? 2 When evildoers assail me to eat up my flesh, my adversaries and foes, it is they who stumble and fall. 3 Though an army encamp against me, my heart shall not fear; though war arise against me, yet I will be confident. 4 One thing have I asked of the Lord, that will I seek after: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze upon the beauty of the Lord and to inquire in his temple.
JONATHAN EDWARDS My mind was greatly fixed on divine things; almost perpetually in the contemplation of them. I spent most of my time in thinking of divine things, year after year; often walking alone in the woods, and solitary places, for meditation, soliloquy, and prayer, and converse with God; and it was always my manner, at such times to sing forth my contemplations. I was almost constantly in ejaculatory prayer, wherever I was. Prayer seemed to be natural to me, as the breath by which the inward burnings of my heart had vent. The delights which I now felt in those things of religion, were of an exceeding different kind from those before mentioned, that I had when a boy; and what I then had no more notion of than one born blind has of pleasant and beautiful colours. They were of a more inward, pure, soul-animating and refreshing nature. Those former delights never reached the heart; and did not arise from any sight of the divine excellency of the things of God; or any taste of the soul-satisfying and life-giving good there is in them. sweet contemplations of my great and glorious God.
THE ARROW PRAYER- POSTURE OF PRAYER Nehemiah 2:4-5 (ESV) Then the king said to me, What are you requesting? So I prayed to the God of heaven. 5 And I said to the king, If it pleases the king, and if your servant has found favor in your sight, that you send me to Judah, to the city of my fathers' graves, that I may rebuild it.
PRAYER AND WISDOM Nehemiah 2:3-5 (ESV) I said to the king, Let the king live forever!
Nehemiah 2:6 (ESV) And the king said to me (the queen sitting beside him), How long will you be gone, and when will you return? So it pleased the king to send me when I had given him a time.
Nehemiah 2:7-8 (ESV) And I said to the king, If it pleases the king, let letters be given me to the governors of the province Beyond the River, that they may let me pass through until I come to Judah, 8 and a letter to Asaph, the keeper of the king's forest, that he may give me timber to make beams for the gates of the fortress of the temple, and for the wall of the city, and for the house that I shall occupy. Not a substitute for competence, leadership, planning
Nehemiah 2: 8b And the king granted me what I asked, for the good hand of my God was upon me.
Ezra 7:9-10 (ESV) For on the first day of the first month he began to go up from Babylonia, and on the first day of the fifth month he came to Jerusalem, for the good hand of his God was on him. 10 For Ezra had set his heart to study the Law of the Lord, and to do it and to teach his statutes and rules in Israel. Ezra 7:27-28 (ESV) Blessed be the Lord, the God of our fathers, who put such a thing as this into the heart of the king, to beautify the house of the Lord that is in Jerusalem, 28 and who extended to me his steadfast love before the king and his counselors, and before all the king's mighty officers. I took courage, for the hand of the Lord my God was on me, and I gathered leading men from Israel to go up with me.
Proverbs 21:1 (ESV) The king's heart is a stream of water in the hand of the Lord; he turns it wherever he will.
