Adopted by Claudius after his mother Agripinna married Claudius and his name was changed to Nero Claudius Drusus Gernanicus Agrippina s plan to make her son Emperor and not Britanicus, biological son. In A.D. 54 Agrippina had Claudius poisoned Nero made Emperor. Nero was 17 years old and was Emperor for 14 years until committing suicide at age 31 He became paranoid of all the rumors about plots to kill him. In A.D. 55 he had his stepbrother Britannicus killed. In A.D. 59 he had his mother executed. And in A.D. 62 his first wife was executed. And Seneca his former counselor was forced to commit suicide. Nero A.D.37- 68

  2. July 19, A.D. 64 Fire breaks out in southern part of Rome raging for six days would start up again in northern part of city and last 14 days destroying 10 of the 14 wards of the city. Historian Tacitus writes that Nero blamed Christians for the fires. Easy targets for they were already hated. Christians were crucified in Nero s gardens. They were fed to dogs, drenched in flammable oil and lifted on poles to light the night as torches. Nero A.D.37- 68
