  3. Reauthorization of Perkins Plan Primary federal legislation providing funding for Career and Technical Education Sets roadmap for New York State CTE policy Everyone is impacted by Perkins funding CTE Technical Assistance Center NYSED support Program approval process

  4. New Program Quality Indicator: Work- Based Learning Proposed in new Perkins plan Will lead to discussions of what exactly is quality work- based learning Consider the work-based learning experiences that you currently provide or would like to be able to provide? Comments are being accepted on the plan at cteperkins@nysed.gov.

  5. New York State CTE Priorities (2020- 2024) 1. Increase access to high-quality CTE programs 2. Support at risk students enrolled in CTE programs 3. Improve career development for all students 4. Build regional collaboration 1. Secondary and postsecondary education 2. Business/industry and education

  6. Graduation Requirements Update Work has commenced on evaluation of graduation requirements Literature review and research of practices in other states is ongoing Listening sessions-dates TBD. No indication yet as to how business education or CTE in general will be impacted Progress can be followed at the Graduation Requirements web page and through regular presentations at Board of Regents meetings.

  7. Computer Science Update Will become its own certification area as of September 2022. Teachers who currently teach computer science courses may apply for a ten-year statement of continued eligibility (SOCE) to continue teaching. Once the SOCE expires, all computer science teachers must be certified in computer science. Draft K-12 Computer Science and Digital Fluency standards have been released. Updates provided via bi-monthly state newsletters. Join the Listserv to receive regular updates on how this and other policies may impact business education teachers.

  8. Boosting the Profile of Business Education Business education can be used to meet the 1 unit middle level CTE requirement Interdisciplinary specialized courses can count for credit towards English, math, and economics requirements for graduation Participation in a chartered CTSO (DECA or FBLA) can count towards Participation in Government requirements. A NYSED approved program is a pathway that offers students added options to fulfill graduation requirements. See program approval page for more information. K-12 Keyboarding Guidance. Eventual shift to computer-based testing.
