Nomenclature Committee
Within the Nomenclature Committee, chaired by Dr. Melanie Schori, discussions and decisions are made regarding plant names, classifications, and additions to the List of Stabilised Plant Names. Committee missions include resolving issues related to scientific and common plant names. The work of the committee involves a structured process where proposed additions and technical changes are reviewed, discussed, and voted upon by members. The final call for additions to the Stabilised List is ongoing, with updates to be presented at the 2025 Annual Meeting. For inquiries or submissions, contact melanie.schori@usda.gov.

Committee missions To resolve matters related to the scientific and common names of plants. To decide the proper spelling, authorship and taxonomic classification of names for crops and weeds. To prepare the ISTA List of Stabilised Plant Names and the Multilingual Glossary of Common Plant Names.
Committee Work TCOMs NOM First : Member propose new additions to the List of Stabilised Plant Names Second: The TCOMs give advice on the proposed additions Third: The NOM discuss and vote the proposed new additions Fourth: The NOM prepares proposed changes to the ISTA List of Stabilised Names Fifth: The Proposed changes is presented for acceptance at the annual meeting (every six years)
Committee Work In 2024: Proposed new additions of names to be reviewed by TCOMs Technical changes (synonym vs. accepted name, corrections to authorship, updates to family names) to be reviewed by NOM
Final Call for Additions to the Stabilised List 60 names have been submitted by member laboratories for proposed addition Deadline to submit additional names: 31 July 2024 (send to melanie.schori@usda.gov) Technical Committees will receive list for review in August 2024 Nomenclature Committee will discuss and vote on changes starting in September 2024 Proposed changes to the ISTA List of Stabilised Names, 8th edition, will be presented at 2025 Annual Meeting (new edition every 6 years)
