  1. NNR REPORT NNR ACTIVITIES AT THE NECSA PELINDABA SITE - PSIF 16 March 2024 Mr. Sello Mosoeunyane, Manager: Inspectorate - NTWP Protecting people, property and the environment.

  3. Inspections for Q3 15 x Planned inspections All conducted. 3 x Unplanned (Total of 18) > 11 x Facilities Inspected (Environment Management Group) 9 x Inspections found no non-compliances. 9 x Inspections found 41 non-compliances. 41 Medium => (Safety and Security impact) 3

  4. Inspections for Q3 cont. Most of the non-compliances were administrative in nature. Such as Fire extinguisher not in place. Access Egress registers not completed fully. No security officer posted at some facilities . Documents not revised at the prescribed frequency. 4

  5. Inspections for Q4 20 x Planned inspections. 1 x Shutdown at SAFAR1-1 1 x Group inspection at SAFARI-1 5

  6. Worker and Public Doses Occupational exposure to radiation of occupationally exposed workers at Necsa was within limits. Public exposure to radiation was within limits. 6

  7. RNEE Regulatory Nuclear Emergency Exercise (RNEE). The RNEE was held on 03 04 October 2023. The report was issued to Necsa. Several findings were identified in the form of non-compliances (deficiencies) and observations (areas of improvements) Those findings must be addressed. Necsa has submitted corrective action plan. The NNR to monitor the implementation of those corrective actions. 7

  8. PUBLIC PARTICPATION PROCESS The NNR issued the directive in August 2023 to Necsa to publish a copy of the application to the interested parties and municipalities that may be affected by the extension of the Thabana Pipestore to provide written presentation to the Board. The said process was conducted as from 01 September to 30 September 2023. An extension was granted to Estate De Afrique who requested to submit their written comments by 13 October 2023. Necsa was required to address the comments received. Upon receipt of the Necsa responses, the NNR review concluded that while Necsa adequately addressed most of the comments from the public, it failed to do so with regard to some of the comments and was required to adequately address them. Necsa was afforded an opportunity to adequately address the outstanding public comments and NNR is busy processing Necsa responses. The outcome of process will be communicated as soon as NNR internal processes has been completed. 8
