Nursing Home Guide was first released in November, 2001 5-star ranking is produced for 3 broad categories and 5 sub- categories Quality of Life, Quality of Care, Administration Nutrition, Abuse/Restraints, Pressure Ulcers, Decline, and Dignity Presently 684 Nursing Homes (680 are certified, 4 licensed-only) Certified Nursing Homes: Federal Health(F) and Life Safety(K) Deficiencies Licensed-Only Nursing Homes: State Health(N) and Life Safety(K) Deficiencies Ranking is based on the Annual and Complaint Surveys for the last 30 months Updated Quarterly Since 2013, it has been a part of FloridaHealthFinder.gov (the Compare Section) History

Many of the same categories such as Resident Rights, Quality of Care, Quality of Life, Administration New Federal Regulation Set: Categories New categories including Behavioral Health, Ethics, Quality Assurance and Performance, and Training Many deficiencies are a 1-1 ratio, but broad deficiencies have been expanded to focus on specific areas and other deficiencies have been collapsed

  5. Expanded Example Previous Regulation Set: F309 a broad quality of care deficiency; that the nursing home provide care/services for the highest well- being of its residents. New Regulation Set: the deficiency has been split into 5 different deficiencies 1 quality of life and 4 quality of care F675 Quality of Life: regarding the care/services provided to the residents F684 Quality of Care: regarding the treatment and care provided to the residents F697 Pain Management: that this service is provided to the residents who require it F698 Dialysis: that this service is provided to the residents who require it F744 Treatment/Service for Dementia: that this service is provided to the residents who require it Expanded / Collapsed Deficiencies

Collapsed Example Expanded / Collapsed Deficiencies Previous Regulation Set: F325 Maintain Nutrition Status Unless Unavoidable and F327 Sufficient Fluid to Maintain Hydration New Regulation Set: the deficiencies have been collapsed into one deficiency F692 Nutrition/Hydration Status Maintenance

  7. Certified Nursing Homes are required to comply with state and federal regulations. The new regulation set will affect them. Licensed-Only Nursing Homes are required to comply with state regulations only. The new regulation set will not affect them. How are Florida s Nursing Homes Affected? Nursing Home Guide: For the next 30 months, the Guide will include a combination of the two regulation sets; after that, only the new regulation set will be utilized in the Guide FloridaHealthFinder methodology of the Nursing Home Guide has been updated to show the differences in the sub-categories and a few of the critical deficiencies CMS Nursing Home Compare s 5-star ranking: Is unavailable until the end of the year due to the new regulation set. The 5-star ranking is a comprehensive rating of not only deficiencies, but staffing and quality measures.
