  5. Where it began Founded by Sister Elisabeth Fedde in 1883 In 1905 was known as The Evangelical Lutheran Sanitarium Started as a tuberculosis tent colony of only 9 beds; expanded into 30 bed hospital Years passed and became a full-service hospital

  6. Fun Facts Became a non-profit medical facility in 1961- Renamed Lutheran Hospital Expanded critical care unit in 1985- increasing number of beds to 409 Today- Is a full service 450 bed teaching hospital Level 1 Trauma Center Specializes in stroke and Leader in Mother Baby Care

Admission and Discharge Emergency Department sees over 1,200 level one traumas per year Facility has one of the lowest mortality rates in the nation Hospital acquired infection decreased by 60% in 3 years Patients are seen faster than in other emergency departments Less likely to be readmitted within 30 days of discharge

Cultural Sensitivity Multilingual, multicultural, sensitive to the needs of all cultures & ethnicities Cater to the Orthodox Jewish, Arab, Chinese communities Separate Chinese unit with staff who speak a specific dialect Facility caters to the many prayer intervals for Arabic and Jewish patients and staff Menus are designed specifically for cultures- Halal, Kosher, Chinese, Indian, etc.
