Ohio HOSA Executive Council Information
Eligibility Must be recommended by the chapter advisor Must be at least a sophomore in high school Must be an active member in HOSA Each chapter may submit three secondary officer candidates.
Role of an Executive Council Officer Represent the Ohio HOSA Organization Carry out the program of work of Ohio HOSA Plan events and new initiatives that motivate, inspire, and encourage HOSA members to involve in the health sciences Serve from the time they are elected at the State Leadership Conference until the following State Leadership Conference
Application Process Intent to Serve form and Personal Contact form Application Additional Forms Response to the prompt: Why I Desire to Serve on the Ohio HOSA Executive Council Activities/Awards within and outside of HOSA 3-5 minute prepared speech about a specific theme Executive Council Interviews Multiple choice test Personal Interviews Group interview activity Written correspondence item 2-minute speech at State Leadership Conference Only for those who make the ballot
Time Commitment Monthly meetings (3-5 hours each) Year-long activities Managing Ohio HOSA social media pages Planning and preparing for conferences Developing workshops Keeping members engaged throughout the year Washington Leadership Academy - September Fall Leadership Conferences - October/November Regional Leadership Conferences - January/February State Leadership Conference - March or April *Executive Council Officers will miss several days of school and make their position a top priority.
Travel Must provide transportation to Columbus, Ohio for in-person meetings, trainings, and the State Leadership Conference Must provide transportation to Regional Leadership Conferences and Fall Leadership Conferences (locations will vary within Ohio) Airfare will be covered for Washington Leadership Academy
Expenses Ohio HOSA will pay for hotel, registration, airfare costs, and one piece of luggage for Washington Leadership Academy Ohio HOSA will cover hotel and meal expenses for Executive Council Officer meetings, trainings, and Fall Leadership Conferences The local chapter pays SLC registration, and Ohio HOSA covers hotel and meal expenses If the officer is competing at SLC, the state will not cover meals The cost of transportation, registration, and lodging for ILC is a local expense Ohio HOSA may provide polo shirts and official dress to all officers.
Qualifications Must perform on a continuous/rigorous basis Must work well with a team and be cooperative and hardworking Must be highly qualified, able, and willing to perform Prior experience with HOSA and a passion to help the organization improve/grow is required of every officer
