Ohio Traffic Safety Council Seat Belt & OP Subcommittee
Safety Belt Task Force Wrapped up in December. Planning to release the report this quarter. Recommendations centered around: Laws Policy Education Research Will help guide the future direction of the Occupant Protection Subcommittee.
Saved by the Belt Ohio State Highway Patrol presented 92 Saved by the Belt awards in 2023 (safety belt saved them from sustaining life- threatening injuries in Ohio crashes) 26 of them were presented at a Toledo Mud Hens game for the Buckle Up- Batter Up Saved by the Belt event
National Seatbelt Day November 14th, National Seatbelt Day Quick Click Challenge-Partnership with SADD and OTSO Multiple agencies accepted the challenge Tecumseh Local Schools Northwestern High School-Director Wilson participated at Northwestern High School (Clark County) Ohio State Highway Patrol Opportunities for Ohioans with Disabilities Ohio Office of Criminal Justice Services Ohio Department of Health Ohio Narcotics Intelligence Center Ohio Traffic Safety Office Ohio Department of Transportation Department of Public Safety Ohio Environmental Protection Agency
Elementary Seatbelt Program: Buckle Up with Brutus Partnering with OSU, SADD and law enforcement to educate elementary students on seat belt usage. OSU Injury Biomechanics Research Center revised the curriculum to include the latest safety information for children and parents. SRO s will present the program to 2nd and 3rd grade students. The program will be launched in the spring and will include a special Brutus developed by OSU for this initiative. 9
National Safety Council (NSC) The National Safety Council is a mission-based organization focused on eliminating the leading cause of preventable death and injury. NSC starts in the workplace, giving companies resources workers can actually use around risks they are actually facing. Our Driving Concern is an employer transportation safety program that works with employers to increase training and development opportunities to promote safe driving practices among their employees, both on and off the job. OTSO has partnered with NSC to bring this program to Ohio employers
