Pay It Forward is an OHSU medical student-initiated mentorship program that is now supported by OHSU School of Medicine, OASIS, and the CDI which aims to pair medical student mentors with undergraduate mentees from diverse and underrepresented backgrounds.
The roots of the program 2015: APAMSA and LMSA. 2018-2019: Cassandra Kasten Arias + Student Interest Group Leaders. 2020: Johanna Wilson + Med23 team. 2021: Cassandra Kasten-Arias (Med 22), Johanna Wilson (Med 24), Kristin Zebrowski (Med 24), Anna Ayala (Med 23), and Jose Manuel Carrillo-Castro (Med 24).
What does it mean to be a PIF Mentee? You get paired with a current medical student from OHSU to guide you along your journey to medical school. 1:1 communication and personal connection during your mentorship. 1-year commitment (frequency and method of contact determined by each Mentor/Mentee pair). The goal is to help underserved and underrepresented students interested in medicine connect with a current medical student at OHSU and to contribute to a more diverse and just workforce in the future of medicine.
