2023/24 OPERATING PLAN FOCUS EDO CERTIFIED & SKILLS DEVELOPMENT TRAINING CANDO TAED & EDAC Ec. D PROGRAMS, ON-LINE & CONFERENCE PROFESSIONAL WORKSHOPS 1. COMMUNITY, INDUSTRY AND EDO CAPACITY RESEARCH 2. PROCUREMENT READINESS AND IMPROVED ACCESS/GROWTH 3. IMPROVED MEMBER SUPPORT ENHANCED WEBSITE, FUNDING ACCESS/PROPOSAL DEVELOPMENT, COMMUNITY DATABASE DEVELOPMENT 4. STRATEGIC PARTNERSHIPS IAO, MEDJCT, PAC, PSIB, CANDO, CAMSC, CAPP, CCAB, PRIVATE INDUSTRY 5. PROVIDE ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT FINANCIAL SUPPORT TO THE COMMUNITY ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT DEPARTMENTS FOR CAPACITY BUILDING 6.
2023/24 PLAN OBJECTIVES 1. ENROLL A MINIMUM OF 15 EDOS THRU TAED AND 5 THRU Ec. D & DELIVER MINIMUM OF 12 PROFESSIONAL SKILLS DEVELOPMENT WORKSHOPS/YR In-person training with CANDO and University of Waterloo in the TAED and EDAC programs for achievement of professional designations. This, combined with comprehensive professional skills development workshops, will develop the necessary capacity building for EDOs in their communities so that they can utilize these skills to develop their economies and build revenues and jobs. The plan would be to continue to provide for this certification training going forward for EDOs that need it and become an integral part of OFNEDA s mandate. EDOs will be surveyed to identify both on-line and conference workshop subject matter that they want prioritized.
2023/24 PLAN OBJECTIVES 2. COMPLETE RESEARCH ON COMMUNITY CAPACITY, PROCUREMENT READINESS AND EDO SKILLS GAPS This research will identify capacity needs in community detail that will direct OFNEDA to determine training program needs and prioritize support by community for economic development requirements. Support efforts can be geared to the needs of each community resulting in real actionable items that will benefit the community for long-term economic growth. Ability to identify areas of significant procurement potential and the gaps that need to be overcome to achieve it will help in targeting development of businesses and partnerships to meet these needs.
2023/24 PLAN OBJECTIVES 3. BUILD ONTARIO INDIGENOUS BUSINESS PROCUREMENT READINESS & INCREASE ACCESS TO GOVERNMENT BUYING OPPORTUNITIES Work with Ontario FN communities and businesses to determine procurement readiness and what efforts are needed to get them there. Research and prioritize largest procurement opportunities for indigenous businesses with federal, provincial, municipal and private industry and manage the connections to bidding opportunities so that increased success happens. Develop and execute a train-the-trainer program with PAC, IAO and Supply Chain Ontario on doing business with the government so that EDOs can better understand and help their indigenous businesses navigate the complex process of bidding on opportunities. Work with ISC and PSIB to help simplify the indigenous business certification and bidding process.
2023/24 PLAN OBJECTIVES COMPLETE WEBSITE ENHANCEMENT, PROVIDE BETTER FUNDING PROGRAM ACCESS AND PROPOSAL WRITING SUPPORT 4. New website will provide easier and more timely access to funding and procurement opportunities, research and database info, proposal templates and private industry contacts. Increased staff will allow for more proposal writing support, training access and networking/information. Professional workshop material database will allow for better information sharing and enhanced skills development support.
2023/24 PLAN OBJECTIVES 5. BUILD STRATEGIC PARTNERSHIPS TO INCREASE EFFECTIVENESS, SUPPORT AND REACH Work closely with federal and provincial ministries to secure increased financial, organizational and capacity support for new programs on procurement assistance, capacity development, career fairs and workforce development. Establish stronger relationships with indigenous organizations (AN, COO, CANDO, CCAB) to partner on new initiatives and expand reach and exposure of the organization s mandate and offerings. Partner with private industry on procurement readiness and opportunities, job creation & training, database development and information/research projects.
2023/24 PLAN OBJECTIVES 6. PROVIDE ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT FINANCIAL SUPPORT TO COMMUNITY ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT DEPARTMENTS FOR CAPACITY BUILDING OFNEDA, together with the Ministry of Indigenous Affairs (Ontario), will be providing indigenous communities in Ontario $6.8mil over the next three(3) years that can be used for economic development capacity building in such areas as, EDO salary support, business travel to Ec. Dev. conferences, workshops and business meetings, community meetings on Ec. Dev. initiatives, office equipment and, training related to the ec. dev. position and priorities.
