About Open Arms Open Arms of Minnesota is a nonprofit that prepares and delivers medically tailored meals to over 1,200 Minnesota residents diagnosed with serious and chronic illnesses. We believe that food is medicine, and our work matters to the health outcomes of our clients. With the help of over 7,000 volunteers, we ll deliver more than 700,000 delicious meals this year to our clients, as well as their caregivers and dependents. Mission: With open arms, we nourish mind, body, and soul. Vision: We see a world of abundance, where people who are sick won't go hungry.
About Open Arms Primary Illnesses: HIV/AIDS, cancer, MS, ALS, ESRD, CHF, COPD Clients with COVID-19. Compromised nutritional status and/or documented difficulty accessing or preparing healthy foods. Delivery Program: 494/694 Border Shipping Program: Eligible clients in Greater MN. Approximately 80% of our clients are living in poverty. Over 50% of our clients are older adults, but we serve people of all ages. 35-40% increase in need for services during pandemic.
About Open Arms 4 menus planned for the medical needs of our clients, with several options for modifications. Meals are homemade by professional chefs. 4 registered dietitians and 1 dietetic technician who approve recipes and menus; provide free-of-charge nutrition education and counseling services to clients. Provide meals for caregivers and dependents of clients. No income requirements. Referrals come from medical providers.
