Open-Platforms Initiative Overview
The Open-Platforms initiative, initiated in 2013/2014, aims to encourage development communities to leverage existing IoT achievements. It consists of components like documented outcomes, API directory, and online testing tools. The platform facilitates the implementation of various IoT use cases and provides support for developers and contributors. The upcoming versions focus on improvements and ease of use for the community.

Open-platforms initiative purpose Initiated in 2013/2014 as part of IERC AC1 and supported by the FP7 BUTLER project The purpose of the open-platform initiative is to encourage development and industrial communities to leverage on existing achievements No single solution / platform will answer all the needs and requirements of a fully deployed IoT 11/03/2025 2
What are open-platforms? Open platforms is a set of components: A tool to document all outcomes of an IoT project (library, tools, but also use cases, deployments...) A directory of fully documented external API (at this stage: from FP7 projects) A tool (endpoints) to test online web services (e.g. IoT endpoints) 11/03/2025 3
Portal users & entry points Any preferred standard for that use case? Any interesting use case? Which platform to implement it ? Use cases Biz. developers Web portal Architects Open platforms Refer- ences How to get this platform running? Training Soft. Contributors developers 11/03/2025 4
Current version Directory of IoT components (library, service, use case, tutorials, ) Extensive description of each documented library Relationship between component Online test for documentation web services (e.g. endpoints app) News Activity feed 11/03/2025 5
Next version (1/2) Work in progress v1 has been tested with a few FP7 projects It appears to be an useful tool for the community Room for improvements/new features exist v2 will be supported by the IoT-EPI initiative through the two ICT30 CSA: UNIFY-IoT and Be-IoT 11/03/2025 6
Next version (2/2) Less content to be uploaded by users (= less time needed to maintain the documentation of the open-platforms.eu portal) Connected to common tools used by developers (e.g. GitHub, StackOverflow, ) Mapping of the IoT ecosystems: where are developers, meetups 11/03/2025 7
