  1. AWEaP Webinar: Exploring Entrepreneurial Opportunities in the Energy and Power Sector for women entrepreneurs

  2. Presentation Focus Renewable Energy Trends Globally Renewable Energy Developments, Challenges and Opportunities in South Africa Entrepreneurial Opportunities for Women in the Renewable Energy Value Chain, Funding of Renewable Energy Projects Conclusion

  3. RENEWABLE ENERGY TRENDS GLOBALLY The year 2019 saw a relatively stable market for renewable energy technologies with a total of 181 gigawatts (GW) of renewable power being added. We saw a consistent pace compared to 2018, and the number of countries integrating high shares of variable renewable energy (VRE) keeps rising. Progress once again was concentrated in the power sector, as renewable energy became increasingly cost-competitive compared to conventional thermal generation. Renewables provided an estimated of more than 26% of global electricity generation by year s end and this Uptake was driven by targets and stable policies by most governments. At the sub-national level, a growing number of Local governments in many regions INCLUDING SOUTH AFRICA with special mention to the CITY OF CAPETOWN are becoming leaders, setting more ambitious targets than their national counterparts. We have seen in CAPETOWN the introduction of net metering at Domestic level which has and will continue to play a critical role in the rapid development of the industry in that city! Developing and emerging economies continued to increase their deployment of renewables, and distributed renewable energy systems further helped to spread energy access to households in remote areas driven by NGO s and the Private sector. .While global investment in renewables decreased from the previous year, developing and emerging economies again provided over half of all investment in 2019 WITH MICRO-GRIDs aimed at powering disenfranchised communities spurring this growth.

  4. Renewable Energy Developments , Challenges and Opportunities in South Africa Of the 60M people who live in South Africa 60% live in urban areas and cities. Rapid urbanisation, coupled with Economic and Population growth, has led to rising energy demand at the municipal level across South Africa. South African Government, Industry and cities have become leaders in renewable energy deployment. Increasingly the Government and cities are adopting some of the world s most ambitious targets for renewables, putting them at the forefront of the rapidly expanding renewable energy movement. Renewable energy initiatives often are linked to wider country goals and urban planning efforts, driven by environmental, socio-economic, energy security and governance objectives. The opportunity is : The South African Government has started to put in place policies supporting the use of renewables in power, heating, cooling, and transport to address power shortages which have given birth to a crippling load shedding across the country.. The Challenge is : While the renewable energy programme has lost credibility due to Politics, corruption, mismanagement and policy uncertainty, we have recently seen a spectacular turnaround with The DoE issuing an emergency power procurement programme targeting 2GW of SolarPV by end of 2021 and an increasingly 5GW in the next five years as part of addressing the country s energy security.

  5. Updated Energy Mix OF South Africa In the the table id like to show you the South African updated energy mix which clearly shows the departure from Coal as we PROGRESSIVELY move towards Renewable Energy domination in the Power Sector. As you can see there is a lot of decommissioning of coal fired plants, with 2019 peaking at 2373 MW and introduction of Renewables where wind and solar are leading with a consistent min of 1GW/per annum over the next 10years. Cliffe Dekker Hofmeyr - The Integrated Resource Plan 2019: A promising future roadmap for generation capacity in South Africa

  6. DRIVERS FOR RENEWABLES AND ZEROTH ENERGYS OPPORTUNITIES FOR WOMEN. As South Africa and the rest of the Continent continue advancing renewable energy in their efforts to achieve a wide range of interlinked environmental, economic and social goals, including mitigating climate change, reducing air pollution, improving energy access- and enhancing energy security, the Renewable energy industry is poised to continue growing and offer more and more opportunities in future.. Building on these multiple drivers, South Africa is advancing renewable energy as a means to provide industrial, Commercial and urban services such as electricity, heating ,cooling, and transport. South Africa is also developing cross- sectoral approaches, for example using urban waste and wastewater streams as feedstocks to produce biogas, biomethane and other renewable energy sources. ZEROTH Energy is positioned to increasing co-operation with key stakeholders and accelerate the transition to 100% renewable energy cities by 2030 by providing access to new technologies across the value chain of the Solar, Wind and other renewable energy sources. With Women participation below 30% across the sector , ZEROTH Energy and it s partners are working with African Women in Energy and Power as well as the South African Institute of Energy and Power to Provide access to Women and Women entreprenuers in the Renewable Energy Value Chain.

  7. Solar Energy Value Chain : EXPLAINED Various opportunities Exist for women participation in the Value chain shown and it is our goal at ZEROTH to facilitate access to these opportunities. ZEROTH energy works with the best local and international EPC s and financiers to provide tier 1 solutions to the Market. As you can see in the Value chain we have Supply, Manufacturing, Distribution and Demand sectors and in each sector there are segments such as Sales, After sales , engineering, Procurement and construction where Zeroth and its Partners facilitates entry to Women and women entrepreneurs Energy supply - ScienceDirect

  8. ENTREPRENEURIAL OPPORTUNITIES FOR WOMEN IN THE VALUE CHAIN At ZEROTH ENERGY we believe Women are central to the growth of a fair, affordable and clean energy future for Africa, but they are currently grossly underrepresented in the emerging giant the renewables sector, just as they are across the energy sector as a whole. To address the current Power shortages and in line with President Ramaphosa scall for women s economic inclusion ZEROTH ENERGY and it s partners have come up with Various initiatives to promote and enable women participation in the RE value chain. Through our ZEROTH platform and initiatives we offer and provide women the gateway and stepping stone into various fields of the RE Value Chain. ZEROTH ENERGY OFFER THE FOLLOWING OPPORTUNITIES RE Solutions Brokerage RE IPP Project Development Channel Partnerships for Solar Equipment and Accessories. Solar EPC opportunities Solar PV Plants O&M Access to RE Projects Financing

  9. ENTREPRENEURIAL OPPORTUNITIES FOR WOMEN IN THE VALUE CHAIN We also offer networking opportunities to enhance women s engagement in the renewable energy sector TRAINING AND DEVELOPMENT IS CRITICAL for any industry especially as dynamic as the RE industry, ZEROTH ENERGY and Partners offer training to women in the following areas Basic to Advanced Solar PV Solutions Sales Basic to advanced Installer training RE Project management training IPP Project Development training Product training in collaboration with our Manufacturing and EPC Partners.

  10. Funding for Renewable Energy Projects It has been widely recognised for more than a decade that one of the principal barriers to the wider dissemination of renewable energy systems in the developing world is the lack of appropriate financing systems There is need for new instruments to fund Renewable Energy projects: examples of Blended Finance, Climate Finance, Public-Private Partnerships, and other instruments developed by the African Development Bank and its partners The International Finance Corporation (IFC) has launched an initiative CALLED Energy2Equal programme with the private sector to increase opportunities for women in the renewable energy sector in sub-Saharan Africa. THIS INITIATIVE AIMS to expand women s access to jobs, leadership positions, and entrepreneurial opportunities in corporate value chain with the sector. At ZEROTH offer access to such initiatives as we are listed partners and we also have a number of Financing capabilities internally and through our partners to enable us to offer RE Solutions through PPAs, Lease and Lease to buy. AS the RE industry grows, it is our GOAL to ensure that both men and women benefit from the growing sector.

  11. CONCLUSION Gender disparities in the energy industry are also exacerbated by a lack of INFORMATION and accelerators. With efforts and initiatives like African Women in Energy and Power, we are convinced that the future is bright!! In order to promote gender equality in renewable energy, women must participate in all levels of the industry, including policy and decision making. Currently, only 30% of national members of parliament around the world are women. As women are direct recipients of green energy, their involvement in decision making and policy development will support better and more inclusive solutions. It is our hope and goal as ZEROTH TO Involving women in the renewable energy sector TO bring systematic change and significantly improve their quality of life. Empowering women at both community and industry levels will strengthen economic and social progress and support governments to deliver gender balanced, sustainable energy for all. THANK YOU FOR THIS OPPORTUNITY ON BEHALF OF ZEROTH ENERGY AND OUR PARTNERS.
