Oral Persuasive Presentation
In today's workforce, computer and technology skills are essential for all employees. This presentation highlights the importance of training the older generation in Microsoft software to bridge the technology gap. Recommendations for training courses, including dates, locations, and steps, are provided based on research findings. Articles by Hoffman and Thom support the need for technology implementation among older individuals. With targeted training programs, organizations can ensure that all employees are equipped with the necessary computer skills to thrive in the evolving workplace.

Computer use in the workforce is becoming a norm among organizations today. Training is needed in order to educate the workforce for the upcoming technology changes. As we have discussed, there is a huge age gap within the shipyard and the older generation needs to be trained as to not be left behind. Seth Dudley
I feel through the research that I have conducted I will be able to recommend actions that need to be taken in order to educate and improve the workforce. Seth Dudley
Computers and technology are being implemented more and more in the shipyard and without training of basic skills, such as email, Microsoft Word, and Excel, the older generation will be left behind. Seth Dudley
All employees will be signed up to have specific computer skills training that is focused on Microsoft software that includes Microsoft Office programs. The computer skills training will be conducted in building 1500 on the 2nd floor room 201. Seth Dudley
Hoffman, A. and Thom, F. both have articles relating to obvious need for technology implementation amongst older people. Thom, F. had specific data and survey results that shows detrimental information about these needs while Hoffman, A. tells why it s needed and good ways to make it happen. Seth Dudley
Training courses will take place twice a week beginning August 1, 2013, Tuesday(s) and Thursday(s) in the designated computer lab in building 1500, 2nd floor, in room 201. Involves several steps including obtaining employee interest, distributing a computer competency test, and then notifying supervisors of the dates and times their employees will be needed for training. Seth Dudley
Every Tuesday and Thursday a training course will take place, courses will be 8 instructional hours from 7:20 am to 4:00 pm. Training will include a teaching of basic computer skills, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Power Point, and Microsoft Outlook. Employees will be asked to demonstrate what they have learned through various, small assignments. Seth Dudley
The cost of creating an educational class on computer use is extremely low. The only thing needed is a salary for a teacher (900T). This could be from $4,800 (promote mechanic within the shipyard) up to $57,000 (outside hire). No cost for computers, rooms, or books since they are readily available in the shipyard already. Seth Dudley
The benefit of implementing this program is that the workforce as a whole will be educated in computer use. This will help people who are applying for new jobs and sending emails to other employees. Technology is advancing very quickly and people need to be caught up in order to make it through this technology era. Seth Dudley
If you choose to implement the plan, the benefits are that the shipyard as a whole will become more educated in new technology and will be prepared to accept the next technological advances in the shipyard. The consequences of not accepting the proposal is that the shipyard will fall behind in technological advances that other shipyards are taking advantage of and Norfolk Naval could become obsolete. Seth Dudley
There is a major gap in technological knowledge with the shipyard that needs to be fixed. There is a solution to this and this is it. There needs to be a course developed for teaching employees basic computer knowledge. The course is relatively inexpensive and almost all the resources are already put in place. Without this coming into effect, the shipyard will lag behind. Seth Dudley
Make a choice now to keep the shipyard from falling behind in this new technology era by implementing this course. Contact your supervisor NOW to help push the topic and possibly save the shipyard from its own demise. Seth Dudley
