2018-19 Kindergarten Assessment District Test Coordinator Training Required for all District Test Coordinators (DTCs and School Test Coordinators (STCs)
Oregon Kindergarten Assessment Is a requirement of all districts in the state of Oregon All students are required to participate Is designed to measure what students know and can do upon entering kindergarten, not what they have learned in kindergarten 2
Purposes of the Kindergarten Assessment Provide local and statewide information that gives families, schools, communities, and state-level policy makers a snapshot of the social, self-regulatory, and academic skills of incoming kindergartners Provide a consistent, statewide tool for identifying systemic opportunity gaps, determining Early Learning resource allocation to best support students in need, and measure improvement over time 3
The Kindergarten Assessment Is What it is What it is not A snapshot of early literacy, early math, and approaches to learning skills of students entering kindergarten NOT used to determine if an individual student can enter kindergarten NOT a diagnostic tool for placing children in specific programs or classrooms A consistent, statewide tool NOT a comprehensive assessment of students knowledge and skills Aligned to Early Learning and Common Core State Standards NOT designed to measure what students learn in kindergarten Required by Oregon law 4

Local Testing Window Begin no later than the first day of school Last six calendar weeks, from the first day Direct measures must be administered within the first 3 weeks of the window Approaches to Learning must be administered within the last 3 weeks of the window 8

Accessibility Supports Found in the Oregon Accessibility Manual for Kindergarten Assessment (OAM-KA) Guides the selection of universal tools, designated supports, and accommodations Are intended to reduce or eliminate the effects of a student s learning challenges Used by general education teachers, teachers of English Learners, special education teachers, test administrators, and district level assessment staff 12
Administering Accessibility Supports Expect participation in statewide assessments for all students Learn about available accessibility supports Select accessibility supports Administer accessibility supports Evaluate and improve use of supports 13
Test Security Prior to administering or handling confidential Kindergarten student responses, all staff must sign a Kindergarten Assessment Assurance form. This includes an individual who will be interacting with students during administration. Test Administration Manual, Appendix D: Assurance of Test Security Forms 14
