  1. Ch-1 Our Skeletal System Glossary Answer the following: Q1. What would have happened had our backbone been made up of fixed long bones without any linkage in between? Answer: If our backbone was made of one long bone ,we would not be able to bend ,twist or turn. Q2.Write short note on femur. Answer: The femur or thigh bone are present in upper legs .They bear the entire weight of our body .They are also the longest bone of our body .The femur fits into the hip girdle at the top and is connected to lower leg at the knee.

Answer: The place where a ball shaped end of a bone fits into a hollow cup or socket of another bone is called ball and socket joint .The bones connected to the ball and socket joint can move in many directions. 4. What problems would you face if your neck had a hinge joint? Answer: If the neck ,had a hinge joint ,we would not be able to move our neck in multiple directions such as forward ,backward and sideways. We would only have been able to move in back and forth.

  4. Answer the following 1. Which part of skeletal system protects the urinary bladder? Answer: The hip girdle protects the urinary bladder. 2. What kind of bones makes up a skull? Answer: Cranial bones and facial bones make up a skull. 3. Name two long bones present in the forearm. Answer: Radius and ulna are two long bones present in the forearm. 4. Name the component which is made up of 33 small bones .What does it protect? Answer: The vertebral column is made up of 33 bones .It protects our spinal cord.

  5. 5. Where are blood cells produced? Answer : Bone marrow 6. What is humerus? Answer: The humerus is the one long bone in the upper arm of our body. 7. What is the function of Vertebral column?
