ENEMY # 3 THE FLESH (1) Romans 7:18 "In my flesh dwelleth no good thing. (2) Romans 8:8"Those who are in the flesh cannot please God. (3) Romans 8:13 "If you live according to the flesh, you will die. (4) John 6:63 Jesus said, "The flesh profits nothing." (Never endures.)
THE SINFUL FLESH NATURE Romans 8:5- For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit. Romans 8:8 So then, those who are in the flesh cannot please God. Romans 8:13 For if you live according to the flesh you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live.
THE SINFUL FLESH NATURE CONTD Romans 13:14- But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to fulfill its lusts. 2 Corinthians 7:1 Therefore, having these promises, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God. Galatians 5:16-17 - I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh. For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another, so that you do not do the things that you wish.
Galatians 5:24And those who are Christ's have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. Galatians 6:8 For he who sows to his flesh will of the flesh reap corruption, but he who sows to the Spirit will of the Spirit reap everlasting life. 2 Peter 2:10 And especially those who walk according to the flesh in the lust of uncleanness and despise authority. They are presumptuous, self- willed. They are not afraid to speak evil of dignitaries 1 John 2:16 For all that is in the world - the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life - is not of the Father but is of the world.
Sinful Flesh Biblical Descriptions and Titles 1. Our Old Man Romans 6:6- knowing this, that our old man was crucified with Him, that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves of sin. Ephesians 4:22 That you put off, concerning your former conduct, the old man which grows corrupt according to the deceitful lusts 2. Sin Which Indwells Me Romans 7:17 - But now, it is no longer I who do it, but sin that dwells in me. (sin which has its home in me) Romans 7:20 Now if I do what I will not to do, it is no longer I who do it, but sin that dwells in me. 3. The Evil Present Within Me Romans 7:21 I find then a law, that evil is present with me, the one who wills to do good.
ENEMY #4 FALSE BRETHEN The false brothers - Galatians 2:1-10. Paul, Peter, and James agree that Gentiles do not need to do anything else to be saved. The only way to be saved is through faith in Jesus Christ. The Bible says to beware of false prophets that will pull believers away from the truth.
THE CONFRONTATION - ONE Paul confronted Peter on God s behalf. What is our response to confronting or being confronted? The Apostle Paul found himself in one of these confrontations with a man no less than the Apostle Peter. Peter s lapse had such an influence on others that even Barnabas, the first to encourage the gospel s spread among the Gentiles, fell into the same trap. Peter s withdrawal from table fellowship with Gentiles exposed a serious misunderstanding of the gospel. Paul charges that Peter s decision was motivated by fear.
ENEMY # 5 FEARFUL BRETHEN The fearful brother who goes out with a false separation Galatians 2:11-21. The problem is not what our relationship is with non-believers, but what our relationship is with other believers. Peter relapsed in the face of legalistic Christians. Peter s relapsed caused others to stumble after him.
The word of God will remove a man-pleasing. It replaces that spirit with the opposite. - not needing to win or seek human approval for what you do. The word of God produces confident and fearless followers of Jesus; doing what is right without concern for the approval and good opinion of others. Paul says that he couldn t be a servant of Christ if he were a people- pleaser.
The Bible talks about the sin of man-pleasing: Proverbs 29:25 The fear of man brings a snare, But whoever trusts in the Lord shall be safe. Galatians 1: 10- For do I now persuade men, or God? Or do I seek to please men? For if I still pleased men, I would not be a bondservant of Christ. 1 Thessalonians 2: 4 But as we have been approved by God to be entrusted with the gospel, even so we speak, not as pleasing men, but God who tests our hearts.
THE CONFRONTATION - ONE BREAKING THE SPELL GALATIANS 3:1 5 Someone has cast a spell on you. Someone has caused you to believe the wrong things about God and the ways of God. God wants to break that spell that so easily besets you The way God breaks the evil spell is by giving you solid truth.
