DEFINITION DEFINITION It is the inflammation of the pharynx (throat). ACUTE PHARYNGITIS- it is a sudden painful inflammation of the pharynx, the back portion of the throat that include the posterior third of the tongue, and tonsils
CAUSES CAUSES Bacteria- streptococcus Virus- herpes simplex, adenovirus, influenza Fungus- candida albicans Other bacteria- mycoplasma, pneumoniae
PATHOPHYSIOLOGY PATHOPHYSIOLOGY Due to cause Invasion of causative organism into the pharynx gland mucosa Antigen-antibody reaction occurs Histamine releases inflammation

MEDICAL MANAGEMENT MEDICAL MANAGEMENT Antibiotic- azithromycin Analgesic- aspirin, acetaminophen Anti-inflammatory-betamethasone Antihistamine- levocetirizine Antitussive agents- dextromethorphan Nasal decongestant- xylometazoline (nasal drop) Encourage the patient for increase fluid intake
NURSING MANAGEMENT NURSING MANAGEMENT Gargling with warm saline solution provide relieve. Drink plenty of fluids Avoid contacts with others until the fever subsides. Teaching patient self care
NURSING DIAGNOSIS NURSING DIAGNOSIS Ineffective breathing pattern, related to oral phalangeal oedema. Pain related to oedema and infection Increase body temperature related to infection Fluid deficit related to swallowing Sleep pattern disturbed related to pain in throat
