PACIFIC COMMUNITY CENTRE FOR OCEAN SCIENCE (PCCOS) Advise on and assist with the development of coastal, ocean and maritime policy, legal and institutional frameworks aligned to UNCLOS Support women empowerment and youth participation in ocean sectors Support demarcation of maritime boundaries, negotiation of extended continental shelf and facilitate marine spatial planning Conduct science-based hazard and risk assessment and develop marine and ocean forecasting systems to support early warning systems Pilot mangrove replanting and technical work to reduce coastal erosion and promote rehabilitation of coastal zones Advise on Integrated Coastal Zone Management Provide analyses and advice for evidence-based fisheries management Support the sustainable development of aquaculture Identify diverse and sustainable marine-based alternative livelihood options for fishing communities nearshore fisheries Assist development of safe and green shipping and ports, and safe seas Develop ocean literacy and maritime capacity in delivering trainings and disseminating knowledge products and decision-making tools Support capacity development in fisheries and aquaculture Enhance data collection and provide data management services for fisheries & marine ecosystems Contribute to international scientific peer-reviewed papers on Ocean Solutions to address climate change and impacts on marine ecosystems Provide and facilitate access to fisheries information SPC CONTRIBUTION THROUGH PCCOS Quality of ocean-related scientific and technical services available at SPC contributes to strategic partnerships in ocean science at the national, regional and international levels Existing ocean science-related activities in the Pacific more and more coordinated multi-sectoral approach, including in relation to climate change Close working relationship with OPOC at PIFS, USP, SPREP, FFA and Various international and regional partners Internally, PCCOS to facilitate and promote cross- sectoral engagement Externally, PCCOS to be a platform to coordinate and integrate SPC s ocean science activities carried out with its international and regional partners

PACIFIC COMMUNITY CENTRE FOR OCEAN SCIENCE (PCCOS) A MULTI-DISCIPLINARY MULTI-SECTORAL INTEGRATED PROGRAMMING APPROACH OF SPC TO ASSIST ITS MEMBERS IN ACHIEVING THE SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS UNDER THE CONCEPT OF BLUE PACIFIC Strategic Action 1.1: Strengthen and enhance cooperation, collaboration, and integration of ocean science program activities carried out by its technical divisions. Objective 1 Strategic Action 1.2: Identify, facilitate, coordinate, and strengthen scientific services that support and inform ocean governance, and ocean management and policy, and to support the implementation of regional framework and international instruments. Be the platform for coordination and integration of ocean science at SPC Strategic Action 1.3: Coordinate and ensure adequate and relevant ocean science information to inform ocean governance, ocean management and policy, and ocean observation is readily available and easily accessible to PICTs and relevant stakeholders. Strategic Action 2.1: Facilitate, develop, coordinate transformation of ocean science to enable PICTs understanding of the ocean is accurate and accessible, and incorporates local knowledge and traditions. Objective 2 Strategic Action 2.2: Coordinate integrated scientific and technical services to focus on developing innovative solutions that prevent and mitigate detrimental impacts to marine environments aimed at supporting PICTs to achieve of SDG 14 targets. Provide integrated ocean science and services to SPC members Strategic Action 2.3: Facilitate integrated coordination of delivery of scientific and technical services by technical divisions and programs to provide solutions that will build, sustain, and drive blue economies in Pacific Island countries and territories. Objective 3 Strategic Action 3.1: Coordinate cooperation, collaboration, and integration of ocean science activities carried out by SPC with the work of international and regional partners. Develop partnerships with international and regional partners in ocean science Strategic Action 3.2: Coordinate and ensure ocean science services by SPC technical divisions are aligned, adhered, and linked to all relevant national, sub-regional, regional, and international ocean related frameworks, bringing together expertise in topics related to marine science, fisheries, governance, maritime transport, climate change and risk and disaster preparedness.
