  1. 5th Pacific Statistics Standing Committee Meeting 9-11 October, Port Vila Polynesia sub-region statistics development 2024 and 2025

  2. Cook Islands Statistics Office Priorities and 2024 workplans 2026 Census need to address areas to include (e.g. disability, climate change) CPI Rebase and National Accounts rebase (following HIES) with SPC to coordinate with Stats NZ and IMF PFTAC (if needed) Dissemination aim to strengthen this area beyond tables including infographics and data visualisation. Possible session for Cook Islands Data CoP (bringing in NSS agencies), plus small training workshops. Aim to reach politicians as a target audience. CRVS new head of Ministry of Justice Data sharing / transfer -- priority for CRVS, Health. To tie births and deaths to population estimates. Possible interest in statistical population register. Gender time use approach was trialled in Cook Islands a number of years ago. Difficult to implement. Need to be proactive and start doing time use. Wellbeing indicators need to develop a methodology to support national plan. ESCAP (Chris Ryan) has been working with Cook Islands Planning office. Seeking technical support from New Zealand (e.g. provide questionnaires for NZ indicators). Coordination received questionnaires from ADB, ESCAP etc. Could SPC answer these on behalf of small countries? MICS in discussion with UNICEF on whether can draw from other surveys (e.g. WHO STEP, Census). Cook Islands would do MICS if WHO would stop STEP.

  3. Samoa Bureau of Statistics Priorities and 2024 workplan 5. Reporting Engaged TA through DFAT for communication and reporting. Recruited a Samoan for the communication role 6. World Bank Assistance Confirmed assistance from World Bank to support data anonymization A trainer will be conducting training in early May 1.HIES Program Manager Economics leading the HIES work Working closely with SPC and Natalie April/May planned in country mission on data processing, team engagement and learning 2. CPI Rebasing, Business and DHS Surveys Working with IMF on CPI rebasing and other CPI related Business surveys and macroeconomic statistics expansion by end year DHS MICS on enumerations and preparatory by end year 7. Social Statistics and Administrative Data Social Statistics-key focus on administrative data Have wide range of economic and social statistics Shared a structured initiative with the team 8. Organisational review Engage a TA from DFAT. A greater need for additional staffing in relation to greater need for statistics 3. CRVS Working closely with UNDP Looking at developing prototype registration Working with Ministry of Health (MOH) on data comparability and data sharing within the MOH System and the CRVS 4. National ID Legislation passed the National ID, awaiting World Bank on preparations by end year or early next year 9. Working with UN on the review of the Statistics Act-

Tonga National Statistics Office Priorities and 2024 Plans Tonga s PacStat country project Project objective, areas supported (including HIES, IVS, Prices), changes you are making to improve the project s effectiveness with new people in key roles. Close partnership relationship with Stats NZ NZ support for the writing of Tonga s Census report by Michael Levine (when SPC did not have a demographer available). Gap in data analysis, report writing and dissemination TSD is building up its capacity for data collection and processing, with good skills exchange with SPC, but needs technical support and training to support production and dissemination of analytical reports and other products (fact sheets etc). For HIES, World Bank expect the report to meet the target timeline and requirements. Website SPC has provided training on Power BI and website support. TSD would like to rearrange content and data on website and make it more attractive, to attract local users. Everyone is looking for the release calendar. Content needs to be updated by TSD staff discussed role of communications and publications staff in this, and potential for guidance from SPC s new Communications Adviser.

Tuvalu National Statistics Office Priorities and 2024 Plans MICS planned for 2025, postponed to 2026-27 NSDS is due for review in 2024 aim to develop a new one for the next five years (starting after Census/HIES reports are launched) Government Statistician is expected to be back in 2025. Statistical Population Register CPI and National Accounts rebase Data processing and tabulation using R-Studio Using QGIS in data dissemination Dashboards

French Polynesia Priorities Surveys and works 2025 HIES with SPC methodological support Expenditures, Income National accounts & CPI Rebase (2026) SDG poverty indicators Income distribution 2025 Labor Force Survey Dissemination : Census 2022, social studies. Economic prevision Data sharing : Health indicators : partnership with government health agency. Real estate rents : partnership with government policy office. 2026 New economic activity nomenclature 2027 Census Internal modernisation Survey dematerialisation (using Survey Solution). Develop the use of R-Sudio. Develop data modelisation (prices hedonic regression models). Develop the use of Generic Statistical Business Process Model (GSBPM) in internal organisation.
