SELF-CARE Encourage your kids to keep talking to their friends we are social beings and thrive on social engagement Try video chats, playground meets, social distance lunches, etc Get some sunlight each day Remember to move! Exercise improves mood Keep a consistent sleep routine Consistency at home is so important, especially when things are so up in the air everywhere else! Keep up a healthy diet the way we fuel our bodies impact how we physically feel Spend time together as a family
How to talk to your child about grief and death Be honest and don t be afraid to show your emotions Use terms realistic terms like died and death instead of ambiguous phrases like passed away Accept a variety of emotional responses; we all grieve differently Let your child grieve and ask for support when needed Allow yourself to grieve Talk to your child about feelings and emotions. Don t hide your feelings from your child Avoid big changes in routine. We heal by sticking to what we know and returning to normalcy Share your favorite memories and don t be afraid to share positive and funny memories about your lost loved one
