  5. SENDING & RECEIVING NUDES WHAT DO WE MEAN BY SHARING NUDES OR SEMI-NUDES? Generally it means; Sending or posting of nude or semi-nude images/ videos / livestreams online by anyone under 18 People can call them - any of the names on the previous slide! People might share them on; Social media Chat groups Messaging Airdrop

SENDING & RECEIVING NUDES WHAT TO DO IF HE/SHE IS ASKED FOR A NUDEOR SENDS A NUDE Ensure they don t send it If they have, talk about why they felt that they needed to send it Encourage them to block the person requesting the nudes Reassure them that this is not an ok thing to ask for and is illegal! Talk to them about involving the police - or talk to school about this

Calmly explain to your child that; Sending nudes is illegal Sharing nudes is illegal Reassure them they are a victim (of a crime)! Encourage them to discuss this with you Try not to view the image(s)- this is illegal too! Do not download or save the images - this is illegal Do not worry or panic school is always here to help you - there are plenty of means of support and help with this!

Please discuss with your child the that; Even if it is something they agree with at the time it is still illegal They might change their mind and regret it They loose control of what is sent and how it will affect them once the image is out there People might share the images on to others Because they just want to! To brag or boast To be mean Not realising others might share them on again To bully or upset someone even further

  13. SENDING & RECEIVING NUDES TELLING AN ADULT - IT S IMPORTANT It is important to encourage your child to talk to an adult as this is a worry too big for them to deal with on their own! Everyone has a duty to report concerns/questions about nudes - our safeguarding team - particularly Mrs Roberts our DSL can help with this All staff will recieve disclosures (when they tell us something) seriously and support you as a family We are here to listen and help!

SENDING & RECEIVING NUDES PARENTS & CARERS If we become aware of this in school we will inform you as parents ASAP Contact from the DSL (Mrs Roberts) or members of the safeguarding team dealing with it We may have to consult other agencies first but will always keep you updated The DSL and safeguarding team members would meet with you or call you to discuss actions and next steps with regard to support

It is affecting a significant number of students across the country The risks to students are huge It is illegal It is central to safeguarding our students It is essential that we to the challenge this culture to prevent unhealthy attitudes amongst any of our students and those people they interact with

SENDING & RECEIVING NUDES SAFE EDUCATION - KEEPING YOUNG PEOPLE SAFE AT SCHOOL Safeguarding first - we want to look after our young people and make sure they know how to deal with a vast range of issues We have a child centred approach - our young people are always at the centre of what we do Please keep talking - if we all know about it we can tackle it better together We endeavour to Empower and Enable our young people to say NO!!!! We encourage you to keep a Calm response - we will support you and help you We wish to challenge blaming attitudes - no blame should ever be used - we will support, help and guide for better decisions in future!

We do so; VIA our delivery of RSE (relationship, sex and health education) & computing curriculum & PSHE Online safety amongst our students Encouraging healthy relationships Explain the laws around viewing and sharing images to our students Engaging with extra opportunities around safe behaviour where groups will present themselves in the short term and cover other issues too e.g. Use of external visitors where and when possible

Mrs Roberts (Our DSL) would talk to them to; Reassuring them Tell you as their parents/carers & them as to what support can be offered Discuss pressures about the situation with you and them Remain solution focused i.e. what next ../what can be done/what needs to be done? Discuss consent and trust in relationships - this will happen in lessons across school in general too Discuss the law on sharing images with you and them

SENDING & RECEIVING NUDES THE LAW AS IT STAND SAYS The relevant legislation is contained in the Protection of Children Act 1978 (England and Wales) as amended in the Sexual Offences Act 2003 (England and Wales) Specifically the law says: it is an offence to possess, distribute, show and make indecent images of children the Sexual Offences Act 2003 (England and Wales) defines a child, for the purposes of indecent images, as anyone under the age of 18 This includes imagery of yourself if you are under 18. The non-consensual sharing of private sexual images or videos with the intent to cause distress is also illegal. The relevant legislation is contained in section 33 of the Criminal Justice and Courts Act 2015.

  25. SENDING & RECEIVING NUDES WHAT WILL THE POLICE - WHEN THEY ARE INVOLVED? They will; Police will investigate and decide on outcomes If the situation is abusive or they find there are aggravating factors there maybe a caution Use outcome 21 To prevent criminalisation if the case is non-abusive Further investigation rustling from the crime report which could provide sufficient evidence to support formal action being taken against the suspect is not in the public interest. This is a police decision Other agencies will be involved

SENDING & RECEIVING NUDES AVOIDING CRIMINALISATION OF CHILDREN Police will be involved as per guidance from our partners in the local area Police investigation of incidents does not automatically mean a criminal record Criminal justice and formal sanctions only considered in exceptional circumstances When recorded the incident is listed as a crime and the young people listed in relation to it Not the same as a criminal record
