PA Dutch 101 Video 21: Negation. net un ken

Negation In PD there are two words used for negation: net and ken. Sentences are negated in PD just like they are in English: That is expensive. That is not expensive. I am eating potatoes. I am not eating any potatoes.

net Net is normally placed before the word that is being negated: Sell iss deier. Sell iss net deier. Net can also be placed at the end of the sentence to negate the whole sentence: Ich kaaf sell. Ich kaaf sell net. As a general rule of thumb, net is used when negating verbs.

ken Ken is placed before nouns to negate them: Ich ess Grummbiere. Ich ess ken Grummbiere.

Iewing - Practice Negate the following sentences in PD: Ich hab en Henkeglaas. Ich hab ken Henkeglaas. Du hockscht gaern in Cafe. Du hockscht net gaern in Cafe. Der Bob schpielt Kaarde mit mir. Der Bob schpielt ken Kaarde mit mir (net).
