TEACHER CERTIFICATION IN PA THINGS TO REMEMBER! NOVEMBER 6TH, 2018 COLLEGE OF EDUCATION
DEGREE (BACHELOR OF SCIENCE) CERTIFICATION (INSTRUCTIONAL I) GPA a 3.00 or higher Passing scores on PECT All coursework completed (all major courses with a C or higher)
TESTING Have scores sent to PSU and PDE The PECT and Praxis assessments have a GPA sliding scale (see next slide) Uses your final GPA (GPA is needed for your certification application) Pros and Cons of this? Pro: Lower score required based on your GPA Con: Your testing score report will never show passed if you use the sliding scale Testing for the Grades 5-6 Add On
APPLYING FOR CERTIFICATION IN THE TEACHER INFORMATION MANAGEMENT SYSTEM (TIMS) Instructions will be emailed about a month in advance of graduation Cannot apply before the month of graduation (must wait until May!) One additional certification can be included on initial application All test scores and grades must be posted before applying We must have a completed PDE 430 student teaching evaluation The application fee 200 dollars Why get certified in Pennsylvania?
THE PSU RECORD OF APPLICATION We are not automatically notified when you apply in TIMS Link comes with the TIMS Instructions Once we have this (and you have applied in TIMS), we can recommend you to PDE for certification If a principal or school district needs documentation verifying that you have completed a teacher preparation program, you can request a verification letter from Tiffany Benner (tjb31@psu.edu).
OTHER ITEM TO REMEMBER You will submit your intent to graduate in LionPATH. If you are graduating next semester, you will apply in LionPATH in early January.
