What Is Pentecost Day? 7 weeks after Easter, after Jesus resurrected which is 50 days after Jesus rose from the dead Meaning: Pentecost, Gk. pentecoste = means 50th the day when the Holy Spirit was poured out on the disciples in Jerusalem after the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus Christ Many Christians mark this date as the beginning of the Christian Church
The Result which came as a result of obedience What happened on Pentecost Day 1 Unity of believers who gathered in the upper room of the house of Peter Acts 2 1 When the Day of Pentecost had fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. Manifestation of the descend of the Holy Spirit Sound / noise of blowing of a violent wind from heaven 2And suddenly there came a sound from heaven, as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting. 3Then there appeared to them divided tongues, as of fire, and one sat upon each of them. Manifestation of tongues of fire that seperatedd & rested on each of them 4And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance. Infilling / indwelling of the Holy Spirit That resulted in the people speaking in other tongues
The Promise of Jesus that elicited obedience of the disciples What happened on Pentecost Day 2 Acts 1 4And being assembled together with them, He commanded them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the Promise of the Father, which, He said, you have heard from Me; Command to wait in Jerusalem For the promise of the Father 5for John truly baptized with water, but you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now. Prophecy of Prophet Joel 836-796 B.C. = Prophet of Pentecost What happened on Pentecost Day 3 Joel 2:11 Prophecy of the day of the Lord Jesus Second Coming -> a day of God s judgement The Lord gives voice before His army, For His camp is very great; For strong is the One who executes His word. For the day of the Lord is great and very terrible; Who can endure it? Joel 2 13So rend your heart, and not your garments; Return to the Lord your God, For He is gracious and merciful, Slow to anger, and of great kindness; And He relents from doing harm. 14Who knows if He will turn and relent, And leave a blessing behind Him A grain offering and a drink offering For the Lord your God? A call to repentance For man to return to God With the expectation that God will relent from His anger
What happened on Pentecost Day Prophecy of Prophet Joel 836-796 B.C. 4 Joel 2:25,26 God s healing of the land Restoration of the land from destruction / judgement / plague God s promise of restoration People eat in plenty and be satisfied 25 So I will restore to you the years that the swarming[k]locust has eaten, The crawling locust, The consuming locust, And the chewing locust, My great army which I sent among you. 26You shall eat in plenty and be satisfied, 26 And praise the name of the Lord your God, Who has dealt wondrously with you; And My people shall never be put to shame. 27Then you shall know that I am in the midst of Israel: I am the Lord your God And there is no other. My people shall never be put to shame. The result of restoration must be the worship of Jehovah God
Prophecy of Prophet Joel 836-796 B.C. What happened on Pentecost Day 5 Joel 2: 28 And it shall come to pass afterward That I will pour out My Spirit on all flesh; Your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, Your old men shall dream dreams, Your young men shall see visions. 29And also on My menservants and on My maidservants I will pour out My Spirit in those days. Prophesy / Promise of God s Spirit poured out Used in Acts 2:17-21 Joel 1 Nature: A terrible locust plague had settled down upon the land (1:4,12) Reason: because of Israel s sin (1:5) Suggested cure / remedy: (1:14) Consecrate a fast, Call a sacred assembly; Gather the elders And all the inhabitants of the land Into the house of the Lord your God, And cry out to the Lord. Ultimate fulfilment of Joel s prophect will be on the last day / judgement day / turbulation Rev. 6:12)
ANOINTING 1 1 John 2:20 18 The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, Because He has anointed Me To preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent Me[i]to heal the brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty to the captives And recovery of sight to the blind, To set at liberty those who are[j]oppressed; 19To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord. . xr chri to anoint by rubbing or pouring olive oil on someone to represent the flow (empowering) of the Holy Spirit. Anointing (literally) involved rubbing olive oil on the head, etc., especially to present someone as divinely authorized (appointed by God) to serve as prophet, priest or king, etc. 1 John 2:20 3Therefore all the elders of Israel came to the king at Hebron, and King David made a covenant with them at Hebron before the Lord. And they anointed David king over Israel.
ANOINTING 2 1 John 2:20 20But you have an anointing from the Holy One, and you[e]know all things. xr sma chrisma (from xr , "anoint with oil") anointing, referring to the teaching ministry of the Holy Spirit, guiding the receptive believer into fullness of God's preferred-will anything smeared on, unguent, ointment, usually prepared by the Hebrews from oil and aromatic herbs. Anointing was the inaugural ceremony for priests and sometimes also prophets and by it they were regarded as endued with the Holy Spirit and divine gifts when anointed by Samuel is used of the gift of the Holy Spirit, as the efficient aid in getting a knowledge of the truth 1 Samuel 16:3, 13 13Then Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him in the midst of his brothers; and the Spirit of the Lord came upon David from that day forward. So Samuel arose and went to Ramah.
ANOINTING 2 Exodus 27 20 And you shall command the children of Israel that they bring you pure oil of pressed olives for the light, to cause the lamp to burn continually. Note: Process of crushing the nuts and herbs to produce aromatic oil The word gethsemane is derived from two Hebrew words: gat, which means "a place for pressing oil (or wine)" and shemanim, which means "oils." During Jesus' time, heavy stone slabs were lowered onto olives that had already been crushed in an olive crusher. Gradually, the slabs weight squeezed the olive oil out of the pulp, and the oil ran into a pit. There the oil was collected in clay jars. The image of the Gethsemane on the slope of the Mount of Olives where Jesus went the night before his crucifixion provides a vivid picture of Jesus' suffering. The weight of the sins of the world pressed down upon him like a heavy slab of rock pressed down on olives in their baskets. His sweat, "like drops of blood falling from to the ground" (Luke 22:44), flowed from him like olive oil as it was squeezed out and flowed into the pit of an olive press

Container - your body which is the carrier of your spirit Wick - is the yielded-ness = your offering to God Oil - anointing = when God pours Flame symbol of the Holy Spirit 2 Corinthians 4 7But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellence of the power may be of God and not of us.8We are hard-pressed on every side, yet not crushed; we are perplexed, but not in despair;9persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed 10always carrying about in the body the dying of the Lord Jesus, that the life of Jesus also may be manifested in our body. 2 Timothy 2 20But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and silver, but also of wood and clay, some for honor and some for dishonor.21Therefore if anyone cleanses himself from the latter, he will be a vessel for honor,[h]sanctified and useful for the Master, prepared for every good work

The Way Forward 1 Because of the indwelling of God s Holy Spirit Colossians 1 24I now rejoice in my sufferings for you, and fill up in my flesh what is lacking in the afflictions of Christ, for the sake of His body, which is the church,25of which I became a minister according to the stewardship from God which was given to me for you, to fulfill the word of God,26the mystery which has been hidden from ages and from generations, but now has been revealed to His saints. Take sufferings as you suffer the affliction of Jesus 27To them God willed to make known what are the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles: which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.28Him we preach, warning every man and teaching every man in all wisdom, that we may present every man perfect in Christ Jesus.29To this end I also labor, striving according to His working which works in me mightily. That in you, Christ s glory may be revealed Through God s grace that works in you mightily
The Way Forward 2 Because of the indwelling of God s Holy Spirit Philippians 4 10But I rejoiced in the Lord greatly that now at last your[c]care for me has flourished again; though you surely did care, but you lacked opportunity. Even in the eventuality / uncertain of our life on earth 11Not that I speak in regard to need, for I have learned in whatever state I am, to be content:12I know how to be abased, and I know how to abound. Everywhere and in all things I have learned both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need. Live in contentment Live a Christ-enabled life 13I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. live as a breakthrough believer
