WELCOME AND INTRODUCTION Give thanks to the Lord for He is good; All: His love endures forever. Tell of His mighty acts; All: And make His praises heard among the nations. Praise be to the Lord our God; All: For ever and ever, Amen. Jesus said, "Be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect him (Luke 32:40)
PAUSE FOR REFLECTION All: Almighty God, our loving Father, we know that we have hurt you and one another by what we have thought and said and done. We are truly sorry and ask you to forgive us. Help us to live each day in the way of Jesus. THE COLLECT God, Who as at this time taught the hearts of your faithful people by sending to them the light of your Holy Spirit: grant us by the same Spirit to have a right judgement in all things and evermore to rejoice in his holy comfort; through the merits of Christ Jesus our Saviour, who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. All: Amen
THE EPISTLE Acts 2:1-21 (NIV) The Holy Spirit Comes at Pentecost 2 When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place.2Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting.3They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them.4All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues[a]as the Spirit enabled them. 5Now there were staying in Jerusalem God-fearing Jews from every nation under heaven.6When they heard this sound, a crowd came together in bewilderment, because each one heard their own language being spoken.7Utterly amazed, they asked: Aren t all these who are speaking Galileans?8Then how is it that each of us hears them in our native language?9Parthians, Medes and Elamites; residents of Mesopotamia, Judea and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia,[b] 10Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the parts of Libya near Cyrene; visitors from Rome11(both Jews and converts to Judaism); Cretans and Arabs we hear them declaring the wonders of God in our own tongues! 12Amazed and perplexed, they asked one another, What does this mean? 13Some, however, made fun of them and said, They have had too much wine. Peter Addresses the Crowd 14Then Peter stood up with the Eleven, raised his voice and addressed the crowd: Fellow Jews and all of you who live in Jerusalem, let me explain this to you; listen carefully to what I say.15These people are not drunk, as you suppose. It s only nine in the morning!16No, this is what was spoken by the prophet Joel: 17 In the last days, God says, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your young men will see visions, your old men will dream dreams. 18Even on my servants, both men and women, I will pour out my Spirit in those days, and they will prophesy. 19I will show wonders in the heavens above and signs on the earth below, blood and fire and billows of smoke. 20The sun will be turned to darkness and the moon to blood before the coming of the great and glorious day of the Lord.21And everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved. THE GOSPEL John 17:1-11 (NIV) Jesus Prays to Be Glorified 17 After Jesus said this, he looked toward heaven and prayed: Father, the hour has come. Glorify your Son, that your Son may glorify you.2For you granted him authority over all people that he might give eternal life to all those you have given him.3Now this is eternal life: that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent.4I have brought you glory on earth by finishing the work you gave me to do.5And now, Father, glorify me in your presence with the glory I had with you before the world began. Jesus Prays for His Disciples 6 I have revealed you[a]to those whom you gave me out of the world. They were yours; you gave them to me and they have obeyed your word.7Now they know that everything you have given me comes from you.8For I gave them the words you gave me and they accepted them. They knew with certainty that I came from you, and they believed that you sent me.9I pray for them. I am not praying for the world, but for those you have given me, for they are yours.10All I have is yours, and all you have is mine. And glory has come to me through them.11I will remain in the world no longer, but they are still in the world, and I am coming to you. Holy Father, protect them by the power of[b]your name, the name you gave me, so that they may be one as we are one. SERMON
INTERCESSIONS STATEMENT OF FAITH Let us declare our faith in God All: We believe in God the Father, From whom every family on earth is named We believe in God the Son, Who lives in our hearts through faith, And fills us with his love. We believe in God the Holy Spirit, Who strengthens us with power from on high. We believe in one God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Amen.
THE COMMUNION All: All: The Lord is here. His Spirit is with us. Lift up your hearts. We lift them to the Lord. All: Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. It is right to give thanks and praise. It is right to praise you, Father, Lord of all creation; you made the world and love your creation. For in Christ you shared our life that we might live in him and he in us. All: He opened his arms of love upon the cross and made once for all the perfect sacrifice for sin.
On the night he was betrayed, at supper with his friends, He took bread and gave you thanks. He broke it and gave it to his friends, saying: Take eat; this is my body, which is given for you; do this is remembrance of me. All: Father, we do this in remembrance of him; his body is the bread of life. At the end of supper, taking the cup of wine, He gave you thanks and said: Drink this all of you; this is my blood of the new promise, which is given for you for the forgiveness of sins. Do this in remembrance of me. All: Father, we do this in remembrance of him; his blood is shed for all. As we proclaim his death and celebrate his rising in glory, send your Holy Spirit that this bread and this wine may be to us the body and blood of your dear Son. All: As we eat and drink these Holy gifts make us one in Christ, our risen Lord.
With the whole Church throughout the world we offer you this sacrifice of praise and lift our voice to join the eternal song of heaven as we say. All: Holy, Holy, Holy is the Lord; Holy is the Lord God Almighty; Who was and is and is to come; Holy, Holy, Holy is the Lord. Jesus taught us to call God Father, so we pray: All: Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on Earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, the power and the glory, forever and ever Amen
We break this bread All: To share in the body of Christ. Though we are many, we are one body All: Because we all share in one bread. Come, with faith, and receive. Eat and drink remembering that Jesus died for you. AFTER COMMUNION Faithful God, who fulfilled the promises of Easter by sending us your Holy Spirit and opening to every race and nation the way of life eternal: open our lips by your Spirit, that every tongue may tell of your glory; through Jesus Christ our Lord. All: Amen
We say a final prayer: All: Father of all, we give you thanks and praise for all that Jesus has done for us. Help us to share with others the new life that you give in Jesus our Lord. Be with us in this day s journey; Open our eyes to see the wonder of your creation and help us to praise and serve you in all we do Amen THE BLESSING THE DISMISSAL
