Understanding Percentage Percent means out of 100 The symbol for percent is % ? x % means ??? ? ??? the quantity x % of a quantity is www.mathssupport.org
Understanding Percentage 3% means 3 out of every 100 3% is called 3 per cent This is a chocolate bar made up of eight pieces. What percentage is one piece? 100 8 = 12.5% One piece of the chocolate bar will be 12.5% www.mathssupport.org
Understanding Percentage 1OO% The above slice of orange is divided into ten Parts. Find what percentage is one part. To find one part; you divide 100% by the 10 parts. 100% 10 = 10% www.mathssupport.org
Working out a percentage of an amount Example 1 Calculate 33% of 84kg write the percentage as a decimal 33 100 = 0.33 33% = multiply the decimal by the amount. 0.33 84kg = 27.72kg www.mathssupport.org
