SKILLS What is a skill? A skill is a learned ability this means that it is something you can get better at, and something that can either be a strength, or an area for development Planning for physical activity | 3
SKILLS Worksheet Match the skills to the different types of activity/exercise listed on the worksheet. Were there any skills that were needed for many different types of activities? Were these overlapping skills more likely to be sport-related or personal skills? Which skills are the hardest to learn or master? Why? Planning for physical activity | 4
VENUES AND RESOURCES Worksheet On your worksheet, write down: Local areas, venues or clubs you could do your physical activity sports and exercise venues and clubs Any resources or sport equipment that is needed Planning for physical activity | 5
RISKS Identify the risks in the scenario . Helena is a keen jogger. One of her friends has invited her to join her athletics team and try out hurdling. Her friend recommends she buys or borrows some sprinting spikes (trainers), but Helena decides her normal jogging shoes will do. When she arrives, it s 25 degrees she brought a towel but forgot her water bottle and is wearing leggings and long sleeves. She watched a couple of YouTube videos about hurdling but didn t attend the tutorial session for beginners that happened an hour before as she had other plans. Planning for physical activity | 6
RISKS You should have identified these risks: She has no experience of the sport so could do it incorrectly and injure herself She has the wrong footwear so could fall over/injure herself She is wearing the wrong clothing for the weather so could overheat She doesn t have water so could become dehydrated Planning for physical activity | 7
REDUCING RISKS How could Helen have reduced the risks? Bought or borrowed the correct footwear (sprinting spikes) Looked up the weather forecast and packed water and appropriate clothing Attended the tutorial session and learnt more about how to do the sport correctly Planning for physical activity | 8
