Presentation Transcript

  1. How many pixels is each image made up of. Multiply the numbers together and stick in your folder. 420 x 640 210 x 320 110 x 160 60 x 80 Friday, 28 February 2025

  2. What do you notice about each of the images? See if you can see a link to the numbers you have just calculated. 420 x 640 210 x 320 110 x 160 60 x 80 268800 pixels 67200 pixels 17600 pixels 4800 pixels. Friday, 28 February 2025

  3. Be able to talk confidently about pixels, bitmaps and resolution in relation to images. Be able to calculate colour depths for some simple bitmap images. Friday, 28 February 2025

  4. Key Terms What do these mean? Discuss and come up with an answer for each. Pixel Bitmap Resolution - Friday, 28 February 2025

  5. Key Terms What do these mean? Pixel the smallest possible dot on a computer screen which can have its colour set independently. Images are made up of pixels. Bitmap A set of bits that represent a graphic image, with each bit or group of bits corresponding to a pixel in the image. Resolution The number of pixels per square inch on the computer screen. The higher the resolution the better the picture. Friday, 28 February 2025

  6. Standard Definition / High Definition / Ultra High Definition DVDs now come in 3 formats. What is the difference between each of the formats above? How many dots per inch does each of the above display? Friday, 28 February 2025

  7. Colour Depth The image below is made up of dots. The dots can only be black or white. Note 8 x 8 grid. 1= white, 0 = black so can be represented by 1 binary digit 11000011 Task Now complete this for row 4 and row 8. Friday, 28 February 2025

  8. Increasing the number of colours As you increase the number of colours used in an image the number of digits needed to represent those colours goes up. How many bits would be needed to represent the colours above? Friday, 28 February 2025

  9. Increasing the number of colours As you increase the number of colours used in an image the number of bits needed to represent those colours goes up. 000 001 010 011 100 101 110 111 How many bits would be needed to represent the colours above? Friday, 28 February 2025

  10. Task Colour How many binary values would be needed to represent the colours below. Come up with values for each colour? Friday, 28 February 2025
