Question: Non Question: Non- -College TDAs College TDAs Can SCWI also recognize Non-College delivered Apprenticeship Level 1 programs? At this time, no. Would require a policy change 6 SCWI/IJECT
Question: Class Size Question: Class Size TDAs requiring large classes to run Level 1 programs or they will be cancelled. RPTs work with the college and MLTSD regional office to determine numbers required Possible to: top up existing Level 1 classes add eligible OYAP ADC students to dual credit Level 1s top up Level 1 dual credit classes with regular apprentices include students in the SCWI Primary Target Group (this would be in the same class, but a separate SCWI program in EDCS) adolescents and adults provided they meet the criteria (see Pathways to Apprenticeship) 7 SCWI/IJECT
Question: Delivery Location Question: Delivery Location P nurie des charg s de cours du coll ge; quipement/labos et mat riaux loin des campus principaux RPTs work with the college and MLTSD regional office to determine where to offer Level 1 dual credits Consider the full range of Level 1 delivery options Oversight Team-taught at secondary school or at the college College delivered at secondary school or at the college Possibly at a community location with appropriate MLTSD approval Consider alternatives to Level 1s, if necessary 8 SCWI/IJECT
Question: Success and Continuation Question: Success and Continuation Success and Continuation RPTs were not required to report on success in dual credits in Semester 2, 2019- 20 Most Level 1s ran previously, previous data is available No data is available provincially regarding the continuation of Level 1 dual credit students. Check with your DSB reps on your RPTs for additional OYAP data they may have. 9 SCWI/IJECT
Question: Eligible Participants Question: Eligible Participants Could students who missed out last year still be candidates if they are not back at Secondary schools this semester? Could we re-enroll them if they still want the program? No and Yes. 10 SCWI/IJECT
Question: Eligible Participants Question: Eligible Participants Can a student who earned their OSSD last year (Victory Lap students) be eligible for a Level 1 Dual Credit this year? Yes. Extension to Students with an OSSD participating in Level 1 Dual Credits the exemption that allows students with an OSSD to participate in Level 1 dual credits has been extended for the 2020-21 school year. In the notes, please indicate in which program you have these students. Students will have earned their diploma; therefore according to policy are ineligible for dual credits these individuals would need to re-register with their school board in order to participate in a level 1 dual credit October 1, 2020, SCWI Chairs/Coordinators Update Webinar 11 SCWI/IJECT
Question: Eligible Participants Question: Eligible Participants I believe that there are times when SCWI will allow students without RTA's to take a Level 1 seat for College delivery. Would like more info on when/how this exception is granted please. Students in the Primary Target Group are eligible for Level 1 apprenticeship training in certain circumstances Programs for these students need to be proposed and approved separately Students are not part of the Primary Target Group simply because they do not have an RTA, or because all the spaces are full in a program for OYAP See Pathways to Apprenticeship: Options for Secondary School Students, 2017, page 28 12 SCWI/IJECT

Question: Planning Question: Planning Hard to identify which students are able to access the apprenticeship programs (Level 1 seat availability is often not clear until start of the school year). Would be great to know in advance what's available but not sure if that is even possible. Typically, this is worked out by RPTs. 16 SCWI/IJECT

Question: Oversight Question: Oversight I'd also like to know if anyone has proposed a Level 1 with College oversight for a secondary school, been met with a 'no' from one College and then was able to get oversight from another College (and lessons learned in the process). Boards need to work with the colleges in their RPT SCWI presented a webinar specifically on Oversight the recording, power point presentation and notes are available at: http://scwi.ca/scwi/research.php 19 SCWI/IJECT

Guest Speaker: Lambton College Guest Speaker: Lambton College OYAP College Student Advisor College Student Advisor OYAP Greg Sheeler Lambton College Lambton College recognized the need- the Summer 2020 OYAP Advisor project confirmed the value of the program. Highlights are below: - 15 of 17 OYAP applicants responded to numerous text/e-mail/phone contact attempts. The contacts resulted in over 40 counseling sessions to discuss issues related to life after high school. - The local Apprenticeship Office was very receptive to the idea and created an excellent information sheet for students. Students were encouraged to call to ask any difficult questions. - 3 students have registered as an Apprentice. Contact was made with the Apprenticeship office and all information submitted. - 2 students (not on the OYAP list) contacted the advisor to discuss OYAP (word of mouth spreads fast!). The students plan to apply to OYAP in Spring 2021. - All students and many parents sent e-mails, texts or called to thank the college for the guidance and assistance. 26 SCWI/IJECT
Lambton College Lambton College OYAP College Student OYAP College Student Advisor Advisor The students are absent for high school-based presentations and guidance concerning major post-secondary decisions such as: - The steps to continue their Apprenticeship pathway need to be discussed and guidance offered. - Late College applications need to be completed and College offers of admission must be accepted by specific due dates. Colleges may also require additional, specific documentation prior to full acceptance. - OSAP Information must be distributed and discussed- requirements change each year and the process can be intimidating. - Post-secondary planning for the workplace pathway is a necessity. What are the student s long-term goals? If Apprenticeship is a possibility, then key contact data and information needs to be distributed. If students plan to work for a year to raise funds for post-secondary education, what are the application due dates, admission requirements and other information necessary for successful admission for Fall 2021? 27 SCWI/IJECT
Lambton College Lambton College OYAP College Student OYAP College Student Advisor Advisor Conclusion: The program was very successful despite these pandemic times. As noted above, the OYAP student needs were diverse and critical to their post-secondary success. An unforeseen positive- the Summer Advisor position extended assistance for regular academic year SWAC and Adult SWAC students- a group that often lacks support. In future, if the program runs during the academic year with in-class OYAP sessions, it is recommended the OYAP students be introduced to the advisor a few weeks prior to the end of the OYAP sessions. Relationships would be established to ensure all students respond and take full advantage of the advisor s assistance. Contact with high schools to request transcripts, and other necessary information, could be concluded prior to the end of the school year when important contact with high school guidance staff becomes a challenge. 28 SCWI/IJECT
