Lesson 6-1 and 6-2 Adding, Subtracting, and Multiplying Polynomials
Polynomial Is the adding and subtracting of monomials Monomial- product a number and one or more variables The degree of a monomial is the sum of the exponents of the variables The degree of a polynomial is the degree of the monomial with the highest degree Standard form of a polynomial is highest degree polynomial to lowest degree polynomial Leading coefficient is the coefficient of the term with the greatest degree
Adding and Subtracting Polynomials Remove any parenthesis. If the parenthesis is preceded by an addition sign leave signs alone. If the parenthesis is preceded by a subtraction sign change all the signs inside the parenthesis Combine like terms (Remember sign in front of the number is the sign of the number)
Multiplying Polynomials Multiply each term in the first polynomial by each term in the second polynomial Combine like terms
