Leonard Cohens popular song speaks for our struggle to praise as he sings: It s a cold and broken Hallelujah
Think about the last few occasions that gave you a feeling of relief and joy. Did you offer a Hallelujah to the Lord, or just feel glad at your good fortune? But Hallelujah doesn t just mean praise; it means Praise the Lord for all he s done!
After this I heard what sounded like the roar of a great multitude in heaven shouting: Hallelujah! Salvation and glory and power belong to our God, 2 for true and just are his judgments.
3 And again they shouted: Hallelujah! The smoke from her goes up for ever and ever.
Revelation 16 16 Then they gathered the kings together to the place that in Hebrew is called Armageddon. 17 The seventh angel poured out his bowl into the air, and out of the temple came a loud voice from the throne, saying, It is done!
2 but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom also he made the universe.
4 The twenty-four elders and the four living creatures fell down and worshiped God, who was seated on the throne. And they cried: Amen, Hallelujah! 5 Then a voice came from the throne, saying: Praise our God, all you his servants, you who fear him, both great and small!
N. T. Wright - When we begin to glimpse the reality of God, the natural reaction is to worship him. Not to have that reaction is a fairly sure sign that we haven't yet really understood who he is or what he's done.
Hallelujah! For our Lord God Almighty reigns. 7 Let us rejoice and be glad and give him glory! For the wedding of the Lamb has come, and his bride has made herself ready. 8 Fine linen, bright and clean, was given her to wear. (Fine linen stands for the righteous acts of God s holy people.) 9 Then the angel said to me, Write this: Blessed are those who are invited to the wedding supper of the Lamb! And he added, These are the true words of God.
Rev 21 - Look! Gods dwelling place is now among the people, and he will dwell with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. 4 He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.
