Faith and Love C.O.G.I.C Bible Band Lesson 7 July 16, 2024 PRAYING FOR THE PEACE OF JERUSALEM
Lesson 7 July 16, 2024 PRAYING FOR THE PEACE OF JERUSALEM Background Reading: Devotional Reading: Ezekiel 13:8-17 1 Samuel 7:3-12 Psalm 122:7-8 Isaiah 52:9; 62:1-6 Jeremiah 8:11-15; 30:5 Zechariah 8:22
Lesson 7 July 16, 2024 PRAYING FOR THE PEACE OF JERUSALEM Background Scripture: Ezekiel 13:8-17 8 Therefore thus saith the Lord God; Because ye have spoken vanity, and seen lies, therefore, behold, I am against you, saith the Lord God. 9 And mine hand shall be upon the prophets that see vanity, and that divine lies: they shall not be in the assembly of my people, neither shall they be written in the writing of the house of Israel, neither shall they enter into the land of Israel; and ye shall know that I am the Lord God. 10 Because, even because they have seduced my people, saying, Peace; and there was no peace; and one built up a wall, and, lo, others daubed it with untempered morter:
Lesson 7 July 16, 2024 PRAYING FOR THE PEACE OF JERUSALEM Background Scripture: Ezekiel 13:8-17 11 Say unto them which daub it with untempered morter, that it shall fall: there shall be an overflowing shower; and ye, O great hailstones, shall fall; and a stormy wind shall rend it. 12 Lo, when the wall is fallen, shall it not be said unto you, Where is the daubing wherewith ye have daubed it? 13 Therefore thus saith the Lord God; I will even rend it with a stormy wind in my fury; and there shall be an overflowing shower in mine anger, and great hailstones in my fury to consume it.
Lesson 7 July 16, 2024 PRAYING FOR THE PEACE OF JERUSALEM Background Scripture: Ezekiel 13:8-17 14 So will I break down the wall that ye have daubed with untempered morter, and bring it down to the ground, so that the foundation thereof shall be discovered, and it shall fall, and ye shall be consumed in the midst thereof: and ye shall know that I am the Lord. 15 Thus will I accomplish my wrath upon the wall, and upon them that have daubed it with untempered morter, and will say unto you, The wall is no more, neither they that daubed it; 16 To wit, the prophets of Israel which prophesy concerning Jerusalem, and which see visions of peace for her, and there is no peace, saith the Lord God. 17 Likewise, thou son of man, set thy face against the daughters of thy people, which prophesy out of their own heart; and prophesy thou against them,
Lesson 7 July 16, 2024 PRAYING FOR THE PEACE OF JERUSALEM Background Scripture: Psalm 122:7-8 (6-9) 6 Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: they shall prosper that love thee. 7 Peace be within thy walls, and prosperity within thy palaces. 8 For my brethren and companions' sakes, I will now say, Peace be within thee. 9 Because of the house of the Lord our God I will seek thy good.
Lesson 7 July 16, 2024 PRAYING FOR THE PEACE OF JERUSALEM Background Scripture: Isaiah 52:9; 62:1-6 9 Break forth into joy, sing together, ye waste places of Jerusalem: for the Lord hath comforted his people, he hath redeemed Jerusalem.
Lesson 7 July 16, 2024 PRAYING FOR THE PEACE OF JERUSALEM Background Scripture: Isaiah 52:9; 62:1-6 1 For Zion's sake will I not hold my peace, and for Jerusalem's sake I will not rest, until the righteousness thereof go forth as brightness, and the salvation thereof as a lamp that burneth. 2 And the Gentiles shall see thy righteousness, and all kings thy glory: and thou shalt be called by a new name, which the mouth of the Lord shall name. 3 Thou shalt also be a crown of glory in the hand of the Lord, and a royal diadem in the hand of thy God.
Lesson 7 July 16, 2024 PRAYING FOR THE PEACE OF JERUSALEM Background Scripture: Isaiah 52:9; 62:1-6 4 Thou shalt no more be termed Forsaken; neither shall thy land any more be termed Desolate: but thou shalt be called Hephzibah, and thy land Beulah: for the Lord delighteth in thee, and thy land shall be married. 5 For as a young man marrieth a virgin, so shall thy sons marry thee: and as the bridegroom rejoiceth over the bride, so shall thy God rejoice over thee. 6 I have set watchmen upon thy walls, O Jerusalem, which shall never hold their peace day nor night: ye that make mention of the Lord, keep not silence,
Lesson 7 July 16, 2024 PRAYING FOR THE PEACE OF JERUSALEM Background Scripture: Jeremiah 8:11-15; 30:5 11 For they have healed the hurt of the daughter of my people slightly, saying, Peace, peace; when there is no peace. 12 Were they ashamed when they had committed abomination? nay, they were not at all ashamed, neither could they blush: therefore shall they fall among them that fall: in the time of their visitation they shall be cast down, saith the Lord. 13 I will surely consume them, saith the Lord: there shall be no grapes on the vine, nor figs on the fig tree, and the leaf shall fade; and the things that I have given them shall pass away from them.
Lesson 7 July 16, 2024 PRAYING FOR THE PEACE OF JERUSALEM Background Scripture: Jeremiah 8:11-15; 30:5 14 Why do we sit still? assemble yourselves, and let us enter into the defenced cities, and let us be silent there: for the Lord our God hath put us to silence, and given us water of gall to drink, because we have sinned against the Lord. 15 We looked for peace, but no good came; and for a time of health, and behold trouble!
30:5 For thus saith the Lord; We have heard a voice of trembling, of fear, and not of peace.
Lesson 7 July 16, 2024 PRAYING FOR THE PEACE OF JERUSALEM Background Scripture: Zechariah 8:22 22 Yea, many people and strong nations shall come to seek the Lord of hosts in Jerusalem, and to pray before the Lord.
Lesson 7 July 16, 2024 PRAYING FOR THE PEACE OF JERUSALEM Devotional Reading: 1 Samuel 7:3-12 And the men of Kirjathjearim came, and fetched up the ark of the Lord, and brought it into the house of Abinadab in the hill, and sanctified Eleazar his son to keep the ark of the Lord. 2 And it came to pass, while the ark abode in Kirjathjearim, that the time was long; for it was twenty years: and all the house of Israel lamented after the Lord. 3 And Samuel spake unto all the house of Israel, saying, If ye do return unto the Lord with all your hearts, then put away the strange gods and Ashtaroth from among you, and prepare your hearts unto the Lord, and serve him only: and he will deliver you out of the hand of the Philistines.
Lesson 7 July 16, 2024 PRAYING FOR THE PEACE OF JERUSALEM Devotional Reading: 1 Samuel 7:3-12 4 Then the children of Israel did put away Baalim and Ashtaroth, and served the Lord only. 5 And Samuel said, Gather all Israel to Mizpeh, and I will pray for you unto the Lord. 6 And they gathered together to Mizpeh, and drew water, and poured it out before the Lord, and fasted on that day, and said there, We have sinned against the Lord. And Samuel judged the children of Israel in Mizpeh.
Lesson 7 July 16, 2024 PRAYING FOR THE PEACE OF JERUSALEM Devotional Reading: 1 Samuel 7:3-12 7 And when the Philistines heard that the children of Israel were gathered together to Mizpeh, the lords of the Philistines went up against Israel. And when the children of Israel heard it, they were afraid of the Philistines. 8 And the children of Israel said to Samuel, Cease not to cry unto the Lord our God for us, that he will save us out of the hand of the Philistines. 9 And Samuel took a sucking lamb, and offered it for a burnt offering wholly unto the Lord: and Samuel cried unto the Lord for Israel; and the Lord heard him.
Lesson 7 July 16, 2024 PRAYING FOR THE PEACE OF JERUSALEM Devotional Reading: 1 Samuel 7:3-12 10 And as Samuel was offering up the burnt offering, the Philistines drew near to battle against Israel: but the Lord thundered with a great thunder on that day upon the Philistines, and discomfited them; and they were smitten before Israel. 11 And the men of Israel went out of Mizpeh, and pursued the Philistines, and smote them, until they came under Bethcar. 12 Then Samuel took a stone, and set it between Mizpeh and Shen, and called the name of it Ebenezer, saying, Hitherto hath the Lord helped us.
Lesson 7 July 16, 2024 PRAYING FOR THE PEACE OF JERUSALEM Central Verse: Psalm 122:6, KJV Pray for the peace of Jerusalem. They shall prosper that love thee.
Lesson 7 July 16, 2024 PRAYING FOR THE PEACE OF JERUSALEM INTRODUCTION According to the Oxford Research Encyclopedia, The United Nations approved a plan to partition Palestine into a Jewish and Arab state in 1947, but the Arabs rejected it. In May 1948, Israel was officially declared an independent state. Following the announcement of an independent Israel, five Arab nations, Egypt, Jordan, Iraq, Syria, and Lebanon, immediately invaded the region in what became known as the 1948 Arab- Israeli War.
Lesson 7 July 16, 2024 PRAYING FOR THE PEACE OF JERUSALEM INTRODUCTION Civil war broke out throughout all of Israel, but a cease-fire agreement was reached in 1949. As part of the temporary armistice agreement, the West Bank became a part of Jordan, and the Gaza Strip became Egyptian territory. But in 1967, Israel defeated Egypt, Jordan, and Syria in six days. After this brief war, Israel took control of the Gaza Strip, the Sinai Peninsula, the West Bank, and the Golan Heights. These areas were considered occupied by Israel. Since that time, there have been constant wars and numerous acts of violence between Arabs and Jews.
Lesson 7 July 16, 2024 PRAYING FOR THE PEACE OF JERUSALEM INTRODUCTION This is a day when the word of the Lord has become a reality, for as I write, the peace of Jerusalem has been disturbed. Hamas, a Sunni Islamist militant group that assumed Palestinian power in 2006, attacked Israel in a surprise deadly assault killing hundreds and taking hostages in October 2023. Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared war on Hamas, and war is going on now in that area.
Lesson 7 July 16, 2024 PRAYING FOR THE PEACE OF JERUSALEM INTRODUCTION Jerusalem is the home of God s people, for Jews have migrated back to that area from all over the world. It is imperative that the believers pray for the peace of Jerusalem. God promised to restore Jerusalem in Psalm 51. The prayer of the righteous avails much. God promised that the Israelites would once again occupy the land that they once deserted (Psalm 62:1-6).
Lesson 7 July 16, 2024 PRAYING FOR THE PEACE OF JERUSALEM DISCUSSION Jesus said that men ought always to pray and not to faint. Praying is the foundation of who the Jews are. They have always leaned and depended on God by making their prayers with Him. After Samuel was made Priest and Prophet to God s people, one of the first things he did was to speak unto the House of Israel. He instructed them to gid rid of the false god Ashtaroth, to seek God and serve only Him and He would deliver them out of the hands of the Philistines.
Lesson 7 July 16, 2024 PRAYING FOR THE PEACE OF JERUSALEM DISCUSSION He gathered all Israel to Mizpah, he prayed for them, and they fasted before God. They confessed that they had sinned against God and needed His help. When the Philistines heard that the children of Israel had gathered together at Mizpah, the lords of the Philistines attacked Israel. The children of Israel were afraid of the Philistines, so they asked Samuel to continue to pray to God for them. Samuel took a lamb and offered it as a burnt offering unto God, prayed, and God heard and answered him.
Lesson 7 July 16, 2024 PRAYING FOR THE PEACE OF JERUSALEM DISCUSSION When the Philistines came near the Israelites to fight them, God sent a great thunder on that day upon them and caused them to become discomforted. They lost the battle to Israel. Samuel offered sacrifice to God and named the place Ebenezer, which meant the Lord has helped us .
Lesson 7 July 16, 2024 PRAYING FOR THE PEACE OF JERUSALEM DISCUSSION Believers need to pray for Jerusalem; God will always help when they repent to Him. God is a God of peace; His Son is the Prince of Peace, and they need Him in their business. The word of the Lord tells the believers that the wicked shall be turned into hell and all the nations that forget God.
Lesson 7 July 16, 2024 PRAYING FOR THE PEACE OF JERUSALEM DISCUSSION So many of the people in Jerusalem have gotten so caught up in politics and greed that God is far from their agenda. But God is a jealous God, and He will allow other nations to come and afflict Israel until they recognize that God is yet God and He still rules this world. We, the believers, are blessed when we pray for Jerusalem, for God promised prosperity to the believers who pray for Israel.
Lesson 7 July 16, 2024 PRAYING FOR THE PEACE OF JERUSALEM DISCUSSION God had Ezekiel to warn the people in his day who worked against Israel by using some type of witchcraft and black magic that His wrath would come upon them. The nations that support the nations against Israel are in trouble. God will be an enemy against them.
Lesson 7 July 16, 2024 PRAYING FOR THE PEACE OF JERUSALEM DISCUSSION Jeremiah prophesied that terrible days would come from Jerusalem, and because of their sins, they would be punished. They will decree peace, but there will be no peace. He said that they would look for peace, and the peace would not come; they would look for health, but they would get in trouble. God is yet saying to Israel and the believers that if they are really His people and are called by His name, they must humble themselves and pray. They must seek His face and turn from their wicked ways. Then would He hear from heaven, He would forgive their sins and heal their land.
Lesson 7 July 16, 2024 PRAYING FOR THE PEACE OF JERUSALEM CONCLUSION Israel must do what is right to continue receiving God s blessings and protection. God s promises are based on conditions. If they obey, then God will do what He promised to do. In Jeremiah 30, he prophesied that God would restore Israel. God wants to restore Israel, but Israel has had such a disobedient heart. They have been so rebellious against His ways and His laws that there have been many times where He has turned away from them.
Lesson 7 July 16, 2024 PRAYING FOR THE PEACE OF JERUSALEM CONCLUSION God allowed the Temple and other important buildings to be burned down by enemies. He allowed King Nebuchadnezzar to lay siege of Jerusalem, but He allowed Zechariah to prophesy that a fulfillment of the promise of Gentile blessing in the Abrahamic covenant would be fulfilled. So saints, do not stop praying for the peace of Jerusalem, for the peace shall return to Jerusalem. God s word says so.
Lesson 7 July 16, 2024 PRAYING FOR THE PEACE OF JERUSALEM ESSENTIAL THOUGHT The peace of Jerusalem may be delayed, but it is not denied, for it shall come.
