John 8:31-32 Prelude To Pentecost
Then they returned to Jerusalem from the mount called Olivet, which is near Jerusalem, a Sabbath day s journey. And when they had entered, they went up into the upper room where they were staying: Peter, James, John, and Andrew; Philip and Thomas; Bartholomew and Matthew; James the son of Alphaeus and Simon the Zealot; and Judas the son of James. These all continued with one accord in prayer and supplication, with the women and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with His brothers. And in those days Peter stood up in the midst of the disciples (altogether the number of names was about a hundred and twenty), and said, (Acts 1:12 15 NKJV)
Prelude To Pentecost The Apostles (Acts 1:13 Cf Matt 10:2-4; Mk 3:16-19; Lk 6:14-16) Judas betrays Jesus ( (Matt 26:25, 14-16; *Lk 22:3-6,47-48) Judas would return the blood money and hang himself Luke does not record the suicide of Judas in his gospel account but does so in the the Book of Acts
Men and brethren, this Scripture had to be fulfilled, which the Holy Spirit spoke before by the mouth of David concerning Judas, who became a guide to those who arrested Jesus; for he was numbered with us and obtained a part in this ministry. v(Now this man purchased a field with the wages of iniquity; and falling headlong, he burst open in the middle and all his entrails gushed out. And it became known to all those dwelling in Jerusalem; so that field is called in their own language, Akel Dama, that is, Field of Blood.) For it is written in the Book of Psalms: Let his dwelling place be desolate, And let no one live in it ; and, Let another take his office. (Acts 1:16 20 NKJV) Let their dwelling place be desolate; Let no one live in their tents. (Psalm 69:25 NKJV) Let his days be few, And let another take his office. (Psalm 109:8 NKJV)
Prelude To Pentecost The Apostles (Acts 1:13 Cf Matt 10:2-4; Mk 3:16-19; Lk 6:14-16) Peter denies Jesus (Lk 22:31-34, 54-62) John was present at His trial before the Sanhedrin (Jn 18:15) All the apostles forsook Jesus (Matt 26:31; Mk 14:27 Cf Zech 13:7)
Then Jesus said to them, All of you will be made to stumble because of Me this night, for it is written: I will strike the Shepherd, And the sheep of the flock will be scattered. (Matthew 26:31 NKJV) Then Jesus said to them, All of you will be made to stumble because of Me this night, for it is written: I will strike the Shepherd, And the sheep will be scattered. (Mark 14:27 NKJV) Awake, O sword, against My Shepherd, Against the Man who is My Companion, Says the LORD of hosts. Strike the Shepherd, And the sheep will be scattered; Then I will turn My hand against the little ones. (Zechariah 13:7 NKJV)
Prelude To Pentecost The Women (Acts 1:14) The women are mentioned as a group in the gospels (Lk 8:1- 3) They stood at a distance (Lk 23:48-49) Mary (Acts 1:14) Mary had been told she would be grieved regarding her son (Lk 2:34-35) They were there at the cross (Jn 19:25-27) It Appears John as he was told by Jesus
Prelude To Pentecost Matthias & Justus (Acts 1:21-2) Matthias- gift of God Justus/Barsabas- son of the sabbath They probably were of the seventy(Lk 10:1,17) Theywould have understood the cost of discipleship and apostleship Discipleship (Lk 14:25-26) Apostleship (Matt 10:16-23; Jn 17:18-19; 1 Cor 4:9-13) Witness- one who bears witness; to the death
Prelude To Pentecost The 120 These were not the only ones Cf (1 Cor 15:2-7) The Resurrection seems to have convinced all of the extent of their faith (Jn 20:19) (Acts 1:12-14 Cf Lk 24:50-53; Acts 2:27-38)...
(Acts 1:12 14 NKJV)
And He led them out as far as Bethany, and He lifted up His hands and blessed them. Now it came to pass, while He blessed them, that He was parted from them and carried up into heaven. And they worshiped Him, and returned to Jerusalem with great joy, and were continually in the temple praising and blessing God. Amen. (Luke 24:50 53 NKJV)
Now it was the Feast of Dedication in Jerusalem, and it was winter. And Jesus walked in the temple, in Solomon s porch. Then the Jews surrounded Him and said to Him, How long do You keep us in doubt? If You are the Christ, tell us plainly. Jesus answered them, I told you, and you do not believe. The works that I do in My Father s name, they bear witness of Me. But you do not believe, because you are not of My sheep, as I said to you. My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me. And I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand. My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of My Father s hand. I and My Father are one. Then the Jews took up stones again to stone Him. (John 10:22 31 NKJV) And through the hands of the apostles many signs and wonders were done among the people. And they were all with one accord in Solomon s Porch. (Acts 5:12 NKJV)
