  3. Bridging the gap ten topics Complete over the summer term Mark them as you go Check your understanding A lot of what you will do in maths will build on what you have learned at GCSE.

  4. Time for some maths!

  5. Task 1 : Sequences 5n - 8 3n + 1 2n + 8 4n - 7 4n - 2 x + y = Choose one of the sequences above (or make your own) and write down the first 6 terms in the boxes to the right. x + y = Now solve these equations. What do you notice? Can you make a conjecture? Test your conjecture. Can you prove it?

  6. Task 2 : Graphs Find the coordinates of all the points A to H

  7. Task 3 : Expand two brackets 4 3 2 -1 -4 -3 -2 1 Choose any 3 different numbers and place them in the boxes below. ( x + ) ( x + ) How many different orders are there? Write all of them down in a list. Expand each one and then add all the results together. Factorise your answer, what do you notice? Can you come up with a conjecture? Can you prove it?

  8. END

  9. Task 1 : Sequences - worked example 2n + 8 x + y = 12 10 14 Choose one of the sequences above (or make your own) and write down the first 6 terms in the boxes to the right. x + y = 18 20 16 Solves simultaneously to give . x = -1 y = 2
