Preparing for interview Once you have identified the right job for you- you then apply by sending in your CV and covering letter. If successful- it is likely you will be called to interview. This is done face-to-face, through tests/trials and even over the phone. The important thing to remember about interviews is . fail to prepare, prepare to fail
Preparing for interview 4 stages to follow when preparing for interview. (We are going to look at the green sections) 1. Prepare answers for common interview questions (not just associated with jobs in the sports industry) common questions will be asked at every interview and therefore its useful to have some answers/ideas already prepared. Questions: what qualities do you have to suit this job? Why do you want to work for this company? 2. Consider research about the specific role/job- show that you are interested in the company/job/role and have done some prior research. This will show you are serious about the job. Example: I have spoken to people who have worked for your company before and they say it is an excellent company to work for . 3. Prepare for assessment tasks (i.e do you need to present/role play/complete a trial?) does it say what will be included on the day of the interview? 4. Prepare your own questions- this is your chance to find out more Questions: would I get any additional training? When would my start date be?
Task- get yourself prepared for an interview **Your teacher may complete a real life interview with you- so be prepared** Task- using for 4 stages for interview preparation- evidence that you are ready. Mr Gibbison s guidance/advice: 1. Prepare answers for common interview questions- create a minimum of 5 common questions and potential answers (write them out) (ask for help with questions if you need too) Mr Gibbison s example: Q: Why do you want to work in our organisation? A: Because I want to work as receptionist for a large company that is passionate about water sports and feel that your company is experienced, professional and would provide this opportunity that I am looking for. You also talk about training staff correctly and this is something I am passionate about. 4. Prepare your own questions- create a minimum of 5 questions you would aim to ask whoever is interviewing you (ideas: what training will I get? What is the pay?). Try and think of some difficult questions or things you would really want to know .
Task and tips 1) You need a minimum of 5 for each part of the task 2) You can do more (but no more than 8) 3) Use the internet/your parent/me for help 4) Detail is the difference between a good (distinction) and poor (pass) answer 5) Electronic or hand written is fine (but keep it safe!) 6) It is vital you create your own work! 7) Email me if you need help

Covering letter When you apply for a job and send your CV- you also need to include a covering letter. A good cover letter goes a long way to ensuring you get to the interview stage. Make sure you put the same time and effort into a cover letter as you do into creating a CV. A cover letter should make it clear which job the CV is for and include the job title and any reference that has been given for it. Basically, a cover letter should help your potential employer to direct your application appropriately. When your CV is sent in, the professional courtesy of sending it with a cover letter is standard practise.
Mr Gibbisonscover letter example: (for a job linked to a nutritionist) Add an address (set it out like you would on a letter) Friday 3rd June 2016 (edit to current day) Dear Sir/Madam, (create a name to write too), Position applied for: Nutritionist for Derby County FC (identify the job you are applying for .*you should have already done this on your CV** e.g. PE teacher, lifeguard, coach, receptionist at a sports centre) I have seen a job advertised on your website linked to Derby County football club. I would love to work as a nutritionist within your great football club (make reference to the job you are applying for ). I would be available to begin work within the next month and travel is not an issues-as I hold a clean driving license (state when you could start work) (Provide an overview of past education/qualifications) Whilst I was at (insert school name) ..school I studied GCSE PE for 2 years. This gave me a general overview and increased my knowledge of sport. The course involved theory lessons covering topics such as the body during sport and key muscles used. I also had to perform in a range of different sports. My main sports that I play are; Football, Cricket and Swimming. (you can highlight your main sports they you play). I then progressed onto studying Sports at A-Level and then went to the University of Bedfordshire to study Health and Nutrition. (link your progressions/qualifications to the job. E.g. nutrition). Going to university provided with the opportunity to develop my knowledge in nutrition and experience working in busy kitchens. I also worked at Derby hospital in their nutrition department too. Whilst studying to become a nutritionist, I also volunteered to work at a summer school, teaching children between 4-10 a range of sports each summer (make reference to some past experiences/you may have covered some in your CV already). I regularly take part in swimming all year around and cricket. Throughout my sporting career, I have regularly been the captain of the team. I see myself as a good communicator, an excellent team player but also as someone who can work as an individual. I am also competent using ICT and have good people skills. I love being involved in nutrition linked to professional athletes. I have previously worked for Mansfield Town FC in a similar position and am now looking for a more challenging job. I love having an impact on others. I feel that I am very successful in health and nutrition. (states why you are interested in this job) Please find attached a copy of my CV and thanks you for taking the time to read my covering letter. Yours faithfully Craig Gibbison
