Diversity and Inclusion FIRST D & I MEETING 2/1/21
What is Diversity and Inclusion? Diversity is the presence of differences that may include race, gender, religion, sexual orientation, ethnicity, nationality, socioeconomic status, language, (dis)ability, age, religious commitment, or political perspective. Populations that have been-and remain- underrepresented among practitioners in the field and marginalized in the broader society.
What is Diversity and Inclusion? Inclusion is an outcome to ensure those that are diverse actually feel and/or are welcomed. Inclusion outcomes are met when you, your institution, and your program are truly inviting to all. To the degree to which diverse individuals are able to participate fully in the decision- making processes and development opportunities within an organization or group.
Topics to Discuss Update our Website with Diversity & Inclusion Create a D & I tab that defines it and shows how our firm is actively participating (links to informative articles/draft our own, attending virtual DI events, donating time to local charities, etc.) Invite employees to free online training discussions (LinkedIn/Westlaw offers them & plenty of others) Attend/Sponsor Conferences that promote diversity and inclusion Share different aspects of our own personal culture/region to promote inclusiveness (ex: virtual games/events/happy hour) Get involved in our local communities by participating in community outreach programs, perhaps each regional office choses and sponsors a local group whose mission is aimed at D&I Look into scholarships, fundraising, supporting local small businesses Welcome packages and improved communication. Perhaps creating a mentor program. 1. 1.

Monthly review of any suggestions provided on our anonymous box online & discuss how we can go about making improvements/changes that are suggested Promote mental health/fitness with fun incentives (firm sponsored yoga and meditation/mindfulness/self care opportunities; apps like Calm, fun runs, etc.) Quarterly News letter that highlights employee activities, work events, attendance of seminars, awards, etc. Let me know of any other ways you can think of actively promoting diversity and inclusion

2021 D & I Firm Goals Set up a blog/newsletter with relevant D & I topics to be incorporated into our firm website and promoted on social media Set up a diversity summer internship Create a CLE for the firm to attend (focus on biases) Look into specialty speakers for topics like proper language usage in the workplace Create an updated D & I Policy for the firm Enlist D & I methods throughout the hiring process (candidates through onboarding) Update our firm site with our new D & I education, mission, policy and activities
Internal Goals Within the Committee Create a Group Name Define roles for each participant Create agendas for each meeting Setup weekly/monthly meeting routine Continue to invite others to participate throughout the year Add our team to the firm site
