Promoting Inclusive Vocational Training and Employment for Persons with Disabilities (PIVTEPD) Title of Project: Promoting Inclusive Vocational Training and Employment for Persons with Disabilities (PIVTEPD) Development/Funding Partner :- IRISH AID-ETHIOPIA Lead Applicant: Ethiopian Centre for Disability and Development (ECDD) Co-Implementing Partners: Ethiopian National Disability Action Network (ENDAN) and Federation of Ethiopian National Associations of Persons with Disabilities (FENAPD) Location: Oromia(Asela and Adama ), Amhara(Bahir Dar) and SNNPR(Hawassa), Addis Ababa, Dire-Dawa Goal: Increased numbers of organizations providing youth and adults with disabilities access to mainstream vocational skills training, business skills training, support for self-employment, internships, and formal sector employment opportunities.
Underpinning Facts and Factors Many persons with disabilities can and want to work. In Ethiopia, there is high unemployment rate among persons with disabilities resulting from a variety of factors including; lack of access to public schools, exclusion and discrimination in the labor market, and lack of information on available employment opportunities among other factors lack of motivation by Employers and mistaken assumptions about the capacity of persons with disabilities. Because of the need for disability adjustment costs, some employers also claim that employing a person with disability is costly and puts an undue burden on the employer.
Underpinning Facts and factors As for self-employment, many people with disabilities face problems related to Lack business skills lack of access to vocational skills training institutions and thus qualifications Training institutions, government offices and public and private companies often are inaccessible Personnel lack knowledge on how to provide services to and/or employ individuals with disabilities. Lack of credit facilities due to attitude
Objectives of the project To Increase access to mainstream vocational skills training opportunities for 100 youth and adults with disabilities To Improve opportunities for self-employment through the formation of cooperatives and small businesses for 80 trainees To Increase wage employment through internship opportunities for 20 youth and adults with disabilities To Improve monitoring, documentation and learning

Major Activities 1. Work on Accessibility of the 8 selected TVETs (Entoto poly technique college in Addis Ababa;Tegbar-Id technique college in Addis Ababa; Adama poly technique college, Asela Athlet Kenenisa Bekele poly technique Colleges ,Hawasa Tegbare-Id ,Hawassa Poly technique college, BahirDar poly technique college, Dire-Dawa Poly technique college. Facilitate the provision of short term skills training in these colleges Food preparation, garment making, IT, Sweater making ,coble stone making, furniture making etc Organize groups of PWDs to form cooperatives -in all the target areas cooperatives are being formed except in DD Basic Business Skills(BBS) Training is being organized for persons with disabilities Facilitate internship for graduates with Disabilities Organize job hunting training for graduates with disabilities Organize reflection session among interns Provide disability awareness training for MFI, Employers and HR Managers and REMSIDA -Hawasa ,Adama and Asela , Bahir Dar (DD &AA) 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8.
