Tuesday 19th January L.O.: To proofread your writing to check for mistakes and to edit your writing to try to make it better.
What is proofreading? Proofreading is when you read something you have written to check for mistakes. You need to read it slowly and carefully so you don t miss anything. Reading out loud really helps!
Youre now going to proofread your work. You have 7 minutes. Follow these steps: Read your work out loud once all the way through. If you notice a mistake, put a line under it with your red pencil. Look out for mistakes with capital letters, missing full stops, spelling mistakes, missing words and numbers or letters written the wrong way but don t change anything.
What is editing? Editing is when you correct the mistakes you found when you proofread your writing. To start with, edit: Missing capital letters or capital letters in the wrong place Missing full stops Spelling mistakes Missing words Numbers or words written the wrong way Try https://kids.wordsmyth.net/we/ online dictionary. Be careful of American spellings.
Now have a go at editing your work. You will have 7 minutes. Look out for: Missing capital letters or capital letters in the wrong place Missing full stops Spelling mistakes Missing words Numbers or words written the wrong way Edit your mistakes as just shown and try to keep it as neat as possible.
The final part of editing is about trying to make your writing better. Firstly, let s use what you learned yesterday about answering questions in full sentences. You can add in words you need.
Now, have a look through your writing for any words that you think you could make better. It doesn t need to be too many. Just choose some.

Finally, give the whole thing one last read all the way through. You need to proofread your edits!
Just a reminder 1. Proofread your writing. With your red pencil, put a line under any mistakes that you spot. 2. Edit those mistakes by crossing out the letter or word and writing the correction. If you need to add in a word, put ^ and write the word. 3. If you have just written answers to any questions, make them full sentences. Think about what we did yesterday. To make your writing even better (you don t need to do this but it helps) 4. Look for words you think you might be able to make better and change them. 5. Can you add any of the sentence starters to your sentences?
