The Maryland Department of Juvenile Services is proposing a new female detention center to serve youth aged 12-17. The facility will offer various services such as education, dietary, health, and recreation. Situated on 7 acres in Marriottsville, MD, the one-story LEED-certified building will have enhanced security measures. The center will have a staff of 126 to support the residents and provide necessary care. The estimated design cost for the project is $4,282,000 spanning fiscal years 2014 and 2015.

COMMUNITY EFFORTS Foster positive relationships with local community by creating an advisory board with community participation; Partner with local businesses and community outreach organizations to mentor youth; Continue the positive relationship with the Carroll County Youth Services Bureau, which already provides mental health services to the Silver Oak Academy and may be able to provide services for the young women at the proposed facility; Schedule 2 public meetings to engage neighboring residents; Meetings will be advertised via newspaper, DJS website, and direct mailings to neighboring community's residents.
