Your role within the Charity Your role within the Charity Digital and Fundraising Champion: We are seeking candidates who are dedicated to helping our charity make an impact on the lives of the patients, families and customers serve. We re looking to broaden the diversity of our workforce and therefore would encourage those who can reflect the younger patients and customers to apply, and those from non-white backgrounds. First and foremost you ll bring substantial fundraising experience to the Board at both a strategic and operational level. You ll ensure that the breadth and depth of fundraising skills combined with the access to the right networks maximisesincome generation for the Charity. We want to be at the forefront of digital technology and embrace change in the way we do things. We have a new three year strategy to deliver and would love you to support us on our digital journey. We recognise that a diverse Board with a wide range of skills, characteristics, experiences and perspectives will improve how well we deliver care and raise vital funds for those who need our support. We want you to be motivated and enthusiastic about what we do to drive this forward. We d like the new appointment to be an influencer and have great ideas about fundraising, digital communications and ways of working that will grow the awareness people have about the work that we do leading to an increase in income generation. You ll have excellent knowledge of IT, smart phones and social media and wanting to develop an organisation which is creative, open to new ideas and wanting to take its Outstanding rating from the are Quality Commission (CQC) to a new level. You ll have experience of working in partnership with leadership teams to agree the long term vision and strategic objectives with a specialism and expertise in the digital agenda. You can bring your digital knowledge to our issues and help find smarter and more efficient ways of doing things. We are looking for an exceptional individual who can help increase our knowledge, our presence in the community and the way we think about fundraising and digital technology.

Trustee job description Trustee job description ROLE & RESPONSIBILITIES OF TRUSTEE OVERALL OBJECTIVE With other Trustees, to be responsible for the overall Governance and strategic direction of the Charity, developing the Charity s aims, objectives and goals in accordance with the governing document, legal and regulatory guidelines. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES To ensure that the policy and practices of the Charity are in keeping with its objectives and its memorandum and articles of association (and any variations thereto) and that these are carried out by Senior Management. To ensure that the Charity functions within the legal and financial requirements of the Charity and strives to achieve best practice. To take part in formulating and regularly reviewing the strategic aims of the Charity, evaluating performance against agreed targets. To ensure the effective and efficient administration of the Charity and its resources, striving for best practice in good governance. To ensure compliance of the Charity with statutory and legal requirements. To act in the best interest of the Charity at all times. To ensure that the income of the Charity is spent solely for the purposes as laid out in its objectives. MAIN DUTIES To assist the Chair as an active member of the Trustee Board in exercising its responsibilities and functions. a. To attend meetings of Trustees, whether Board Meetings or Committee Meetings, ensuring the Charity s policies and concerns are reflected in their deliberations. b. To be familiar with the operations of the Charity to ensure that a critical and informed view can be maintained, participating in appropriate training sessions and visiting the Hospice as necessary. c. To contribute specific skills, interests and contacts to support the Charity. d. To promote the Charity to as wide an audience of donors and beneficiaries as possible. e. Trustee job description Trustee job description A simple model code of conduct It is the responsibility of management committee members or trustees to: Act within the governing document and the law being aware of the contents of the organisation s governing document and the law as it applies to Thames Hospice. Act in the best interest of Thames Hospice as a whole considering what is best for the organisation and its beneficiaries and avoiding bringing Thames Hospice into disrepute. Manage conflicts of interest effectively registering, declaring and resolving conflicts of interest. Not gaining materially or financially unless specifically authorised to do so. Respect confidentiality understanding what confidentiality means in practice for Thames Hospice its board and the individuals involved with it. Have a sound and up-to-date knowledge of Thames Hospice and its environment understanding how Thames Hospice works and the environment within which it operates. Attend meetings and other appointments or give apologies considering other ways of engaging with the organisation if regularly unable to attend trustee meetings. Prepare fully for meetings and all work for Thames Hospice reading papers, querying anything you don t understand and thinking through issues in good time before meetings. Actively engage in discussion, debate and voting in meetings contributing positively, listening carefully, challenging sensitively and avoiding conflict. Act jointly and accept a majority decision making decisions collectively, standing by them and not acting individually unless specifically authorised to do so. Work considerately and respectfully with all respecting diversity, different roles and boundaries, and avoiding giving offence. Trustees are expected to honour the content and spirit of this code. Appointment is subject to an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check.

  6. The Charity The Charity Thames Hospice provides both specialist palliative care and end of life services for patients aged 16 and above living with life limiting conditions. The Hospice has 29 ensuite bedrooms, a day therapy unit, an education facility and generates income through the amazing fundraising and retail teams hard work. Each year we need to generate an income of c 12m to provide outstanding care. The community team and rapid response team support 400 patients in the community each year providing 24-hr care face to face and telephone support services. We employee 290 colleagues and over 700 volunteers.

Our Board of Trustees Our Board of Trustees The Trustees have responsibility for directing the affairs of the charity, ensuring that Thames Hospice meets its strategic objectives whilst complying with charity law and the Charity Commission requirements. The Hospice Board is chaired by Jonathan Jones and bring a breadth of experience to the organisation from the medical, commercial, finance and HR professions. Full Board meetings are held every three months.

  9. Our Senior Management Team Our Senior Management Team Our Management Team is led by the Chief Executive Debbie Raven. Debbie has been CEO of the Hospice since March 2015 and has overall responsibility for leading the charity, its patients, colleagues, volunteers, the strategy and policies. Under Debbie s leadership the Hospice has moved to its new location by Bray Lake with state of the art facilities and the Care Quality Commission inspected the service provided to patients and rated the Hospice Outstanding . (October 2021) Debbie is supported by an excellent team with expertise in palliative and end of life care, nursing, finance, people services, governance, fundraising , marketing and retail.

Support in your role Support in your role Although there are many skills and attributes we d like you to bring to our team, we will also want to support you to develop new skills whilst you are a Trustee. We will offer a corporate induction and require you to undertake statutory and mandatory training when you start. The Chair and Chief Executive will support you to make an impact on the role we play in the community, support the development of your leadership skills and ensure that you feel immense pride and privilege through volunteering and adding value. As part of your role you ll be able to work with the senior management teams in their medical, nursing, retail, financial, fundraising and HR professions. The Chair of the Board will arrange for you to have a buddy on the Board who can support you to settle into your role and be on hand to provide advice and guidance. There is a Trustee network which you ll be a member of with others on hand to share their expertise and knowledge of the sector. We ll support you to attend conferences and be part of Hospice UK. This will enable you develop in the role and bring back ideas and expertise to the Charity.

Staff treat patients and their loved ones with compassion and kindness, respect their dignity and privacy and go above and beyond. Services are planned and tailored to meet the complex needs of individual people. The Services are delivered flexibly, by a responsive and passionate multidisciplinary team, providing choice and continuity of care for patients. Leaders run services effectively using best practice systems and support their staff to develop new skills.

  13. Recruitment Process Recruitment Process If you are interested in this Trustee opportunity: Please send your CV to Denise.Nandan@Thameshospice.org.uk by 18 November 2021. First round conversations with Chief Executive will take place week commencing 15 November. Formal interviews by the Nomination s Committee, Chaired by Jonathan Jones will take place on Thursday 2 December. On this date we ll also arrange for you to meet the Senior Management Team. Formal Board approval to appoint will take place Thursday 9 December. If you are successful you ll be required to pass all employment checks before a formal offer can be made. This will include Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check and two references. The successful applicant will be asked to attend an Induction Day, complete training and development to support the transition to this new role and undertake about 8 hours of statutory and mandatory training. Please note that the Income Generation and Marketing Committee is scheduled for Friday 11 February 2022 and the Board is scheduled for Thursday 17 March 2022. As a Trustee you will be appraised at the end of your first year.
